Sophomore guard Dion Waiters netted all of his game-high 11 points during a 19-2 run that helped the No. 1-seeded Syracuse Orange take a 25-24 halftime lead over the No. 8-seeded Kansas St. Wildcats in a NCAA Tournament third-round contest in Pittsburgh, PA. The winner advances to play either No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers or No. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores next week.
The run gave Syracuse a 23-12 advantage with a little under eight minutes to play in the first half. However, from there the Orange went ice cold from the floor making just one field goal in the remaining time, as Kansas State trimmed the lead to just one point heading into the locker room.
Keeping Kansas State in the game is, not surprisingly, its rebounding. The Wildcats hold an outstanding 25-15 bounding advantage, including 12-2 on the offensive glass.
Junior guard Rodney McGrudger has tallied a team-best 11 points for Kansas State, though he's battling an ankle injury that forced him to the locker room for a new tape job. It seems to have hindered his jumping and cutting ability.
