Behind nine point from junior guard Jaron Lane and a perfectly executed first-half effort, the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs has taken a 34-30 halftime lead over the Syracuse Orange in a NCAA Tournament first-round contest in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bulldogs are looking to become the first No. 16 seed to knock off a No. 1 and advance to the third round where they will face No. 8 Kansas St. Wildcats.
The Bulldogs are 11-for-22 from the floor, including 5-for-14 from behind the 3-point range and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. The Orange have settled for 3-pointers and are just 1-for-13.
Sophomore guard Dion Waiters leads Syracuse in scoring with 12 points of the bench, while junior guard Brandon Triche has tallied five points.
