Syracuse Vs. USF: No. 2 Orange Host Bulls In Big East Showdown

The No. 2-ranked Syracuse Orange look to move one step closer to locking up its 10th Big East Conference regular-season title Wednesday, when they host the South Florid Bulls in Big East men's basketball contest at the Carrier Dome (7 p.m. on SNY).

The Orange (27-1, 14-1 Big East) have already locked up a double-bye in the upcoming Big East Tournament, March 6-10, as No. 8-ranked Georgetown lost to the Seton Hall Pirates Tuesday, 73-55. However, Syracuse still needs two more victories or a loss by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to help tie the Connecticut Huskies for the most regular-season titles in league history (10).

Syracuse have won seven straight and will be trying to extend its Carrier Dome-winning streak to a program record 21.

The Orange are paced by senior forward Kris Joseph who's averaging 14.0 points per game, but over the past four games sophomore forward C.J. Fair has been outstanding averaging 13.3 ppg and 8.5 rebounds per game.

On Sunday, Fair tallied a collegiate-best 21 points in Syracuse's 74-64 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Meanwhile, the Bulls (17-10, 10-4) are trying to secure an NCAA Tournament bid despite their impressive league record, which has put them in a position to possibly earn a double-bye in the upcoming conference tournament. If the tournament started Wed., USF would earn that honor.

USF has earned four straight victories, however, its still looking for its first over a top-25 program this season.

Senior forward Augustus Gilchrist is the Bulls' top scorer with 10.5 ppg, while sophomore guard Victor Rudd Jr is second-best with 9.1 ppg and senior forward Ron Anderson Jr. is the team's best rebounder (5.8 per game).
