Mookie Jones Leaves School: Syracuse Forward Cites Family Issues As Reason For Departure

At the same time Syracuse University men's basketball fans were learning that sophomore center Fab Melo would not be with the No. 1-ranked Orange for its two-game road trip, the masses also received news about the departure of junior forward Mookie Jones, who's no longer a part of the team. According to Jones' facebook page, he cites family issues as the reason for leaving.

"I appriciate what Syracuse basketball has done for me I'm sorry to all of my fans but family is the most.important thing right now much love to everyone," said Jones on his facebook page.

The loss of Jones will be very minimal, as the 6-foot-6, 210-pound scholarship player saw playing time only during garbage minutes. However, what will be missed is his likeable attitude that made him a fan favorite among the student body.

Jones did tweet earlier in the day that he will be "back next year".

Jones did not play in SU's victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers, 71-63, Monday, but he did net 10 points last Saturday against the Providence Friars. This season, Jones played in just seven games and tallied just 20 points.
