While I was away last week SB Nation's Big East Conference website, Big East Coast Bias, came out with its preseason rankings and conference all-star teams. That must mean the college football season is getting closer, so let's take a look at how things shook out for Syracuse and Rutgers in those rankings.
BECB polled bloggers for each of the Big East Conference teams, and totalled the responses to come up with their selections.
Preseason Rankings
In the preseason team rankings, Syracuse was fifth among eight teams coming off its Pinstripe Bowl appearance. BECB said "everyone seems to agree that the Orange will once again be a solid team that doesn't take a step backward, but doesn't quite contend for the Big East either. " Rutgers, coming off an awful season, placed seventh in the preseason balloting. On The Banks thinks prognosticators are wrong about the Scarlet Knights. West Virginia, incidentally, is ranked No. 1 in the conference by SB Nation voters.
Preseason All-Big East Team
Four players from Syracuse were voted preseason All-Big East by SB Nation voters. None from Rutgers made the squad.
For the Orange, tight end Nick Provo, offensive lineman Justin Pugh, defensive lineman Chandler Jones and kicker Ross Krautman were named to the team.
