Joe Lefeged Aims To Impress At Rutgers Pro Day

Cam Newton of Auburn and Ryan Mallett of Arkansas worked out amidst much fanfare at their respective NFL Pro Days Tuesday. When Rutgers University holds its Pro Day Wedneday the fanfare will be non-existent. Big East Conference fans won't even be paying attention with the Big East Conference Basketball Tournament in full swing.

The event will be important for Scarlet Knights safety Joe Lefeged, however. The Rutgers safety will be among 13 former Scarlet Knights to work out at the school's Pro Day.

If you are really interested, you will be able to watch the Pro Day live beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET on ScarletKnight.com.

In addition to Lefeged, participants include Howard Barbieri, Sorie Bayoh, Brandon Bing, Jonathan Freeny, Antonio Lowery, Charlie Noonan, Alex Silvestro and Teddy Dellaganna. In addition, former Scarlet Knights Andrew DePaola,Shamar Graves, Julian Hayes and Andres Morales.

Lefeged is considered a somewhat marginal NFL prospect who will be helped by his speed and kick return skills. Here is a scouting report from NFL.com:

Lefeged is an in-the-box safety that does not tackle well enough to assume this role at the next level. He gets good depth when dropping into coverage, but lacks the speed to be a center fielder. He also struggles to locate the ball carrier in run support and does not show the ability to shed and wade through traffic. He is aggressive at the point of attack, but he is not a strong tackler and is run through far too often. Lefeged is a tough football player that could contribute on special teams in the NFL and might be a rookie free agent.
