Junior guard Terrance Hill scored a game-best 23 points Thursday and senior guard Demonte Harper nailed a go-ahead, pull-up 3-pointer with less than four second remaining to guide the No. 13-seeded Morehead State Eagles past No. 4 Louisville Cardinals, 62-61, in a second-round NCAA Tournament contest in Denver, CO. The Eagles (25-9), who won the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, March 5, advance to player either No. 5 Vanderbilt or No. 12 Richmond Saturday in a third-round Southwest Region matchup.
Morehead State Upsets Louisville On Game Winner in 2011 NCAA Tournament (via PREYIVREIGN)
Louisville, which trailed 57-52 with 5:24 to play, rallied with a late 9-2 run to take a 61-57 advantage with 1:20 to go. Morehead State then used two free throws from Kenneth Faried and then the 3-pointer by Harper to take the one-point margin. The Cardinals called timeout with 3.6 seconds to go, but a late-second 3-pointer by Mike Marra was blocked by Faried, who finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
Currently, the Big East Conference is 1-1 on the day. Earlier, No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers beat No. 12 Clemson Tigers, 84-76.
