Syracuse Vs. Marshall: Orange Host Thundering Herd At Carrier Dome

Senior point guard Scoop Jardine helped lead the Syracuse University men's basketball program to their first top 10 victory of the season last Friday against the University of Florida. Can Scoop do it again Tuesday night, as the Orange (8-0) host Marshall University Tuesday night (7:00 p.m. ET on SNY)?

The Syracuse University men's basketball team hopes to avoid a classic trap-game loss Tuesday night, as Marshall University visits the Carrier Dome in a non-conference contest in Syracuse (7:00 p.m. ET on SNY). The Orange (8-0), who are ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll, is coming off a solid 72-68 victory Friday night over the University of Florida (No. 12), while the Thundering Herd (5-1) is off to a solid start to their season, which has already featured a 73-69 overtime victory over the University of Cincinnati, Nov. 25.

"...Marshall might be better than anybody we’ve played," said Orange head coach Jim Boeheim last Friday night at the tail end of another memorable post-game press conference, "so I think that will be a difficult thing for our players now to turn around this thing by Tuesday to get ready. I’ve been watching teams we’re playing: Marshall, GW [George Washington], and Tulane is 8-0. These teams are playing good; there are a lot of good teams. Hopefully that will help us to get going."

Syracuse senior point Scoop Jardine netted 12 of his 16 points in the second half Friday to help SU, which trailed 49-46 with about nine minutes to play, stay unbeaten. Jardine added seven assists, four rebounds and four steals in his most complete game of the year, while junior guard Brandon Triche netted a team-best 20 points.

Meanwhile, Marshall enters as 15 1/2-point underdogs and is coming off a 70-68 loss to Ohio University last Wednesday. The Herd are paced by Preseason Conference USA First Team member DeAndre Kane, who is netting 15.8 points per game, while junior forward Dennis Tinnon is the team's best rebounder (9.7 per game). Last Wednesday, Tinnon (6-foot-8, 225-pounds) tallied 12 points and 14 rebounds.
