Syracuse men's basketball program has opened the season with eight straight wins, enough to remain in the top five of both major NCAA basketball rankings for the fifth straight week. The Orange were voted No. 3 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, receiving one first-place vote in the latter.

Syracuse dominated against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday to open play last week, surging to an 84-48 win that was aided by 13 three-point field goals. Junior forward James Southerland tied his career high with 19 points, draining three triples, Brandon Triche added 12 points and Kris Joseph also reached double figures with 11.

The Orange then defeated Florida 72-68 when Scoop Jardine - who finished with 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals - scored eight late points to hold off the Gators.

Syracuse resumes play tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Marshall.
