For the second straight week, the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team holds the top spot in the NCAA basketball rankings. Syracuse held onto its lead in both the AP Top 25 and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after winning its lone game of the week, an away tilt at North Carolina State.
Syracuse earned 53 out of 65 first-place votes in the AP Top 25 poll. The Orange also topped the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll with 30 out of 31 first-place votes.
Syracuse's visit to NC State was the Orange's first away game of the season. Jim Boeheim's team responded by building a 17-point lead, losing all but two points of that lead, then finishing the game with a flurry to close out an 88-72 win.
"Not to say that we're arrogant, but we're No. 1 in the country for a reason," said senior Kris Joseph. "Going into someone else's home, it's always going to be tough. Like I said, we held our composure -- that's what I took out of this game."
