After a stirring comeback victory against Stanford, the Syracuse Orange improved to No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25 college basketball rankings.
Trailing by seven points with just more than four minutes remaining against Stanford on Friday, Syracuse drained its final six field goal attempts to hand Stanford its first loss, 69-63. The win allowed Syracuse to move past North Carolina and UConn in the top 25 poll, though the Orange did not leap as high as Duke did.
The Blue Devils advanced from No. 6 to No. 3 prior to a Tuesday-night matchup against No. 2 Ohio State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Kentucky took over the top spot after North Carolina lost to UNLV.
The Orange remain wrapped in controversy. Assistant coach Bernie Fine has been fired amid a child abuse scandal, and head coach Jim Boeheim released a statement supporting the decision to part ways with Fine. Boeheim also backtracked from his original accusations calling the alleged victims liars.
