Big East Basketball Power Rankings: Syracuse Falls To No. 7

The Syracuse Orange's current four-game losing streak not only forced SU out of the Top 10 in the latest college basketball rankings but helped the Orange drop out of the Top 5 in the latest SB Nation Big East Power Rankings posted Monday by The UConn Blog. Last Monday, the Orange (18-4, 5-4 Big East) were ranked fourth in the 16-team league. However, last week SU lost to the No. 12 team in the conference, the Seton Hall Pirates, and No 8 Marquette Golden Eagles.

The Big East Conference had a wacky week filled with a lot of upsets and near upsets. This forced Andrew Porter, monitor for the Power Rankings and writer for The UConn Blog, to say this about this week's vote tally.

"The ballots were all over the place this week," wrote Andrew Porter. "UConn, Louisville, Notre Dame and Villanova all got votes as No. 2, but on other ballots some of those same teams checked in as low as No. 7. So good luck figuring out the conference, because this week I'm not even going to try."

Despite beating the nation's No. 5-ranked Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, the St. John's Red Storm (12-8, 4-5) jumped up just one spot in the power rankings to No. 10. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (12-9, 3-6), who nearly defeated No. 1 Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday, went from No. 13 to No. 12.
