Senior guard Jeremy Hazell scored 17 first-half points to help the hot shooting Seton Hall Pirates take a 43-30 halftime lead over the Syracuse Orange (No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches) at the Carrier Dome.
The Pirates shot 10-of-11 in the games first eight minutes to jump out to a 26-15 advantage. SU responded with a quick spurt that cut the margin to 26-21 with 6:37 to go in the half. However, Hazell, who shot 4-for-6 from 3-point land, led a 11-2 run by nailing two 3-pointers which help give the Pirates a 37-23 lead with 3:49 remaining in the half. SHU kept SU from responding before the half to lead by 13 points.
Currently, the Pirates have shot 7-for-11 (63.5 percent) from behind the 3-point arc. They’re 16-of-30 (53.3) from the field. Junior guard Jordan Theodore has 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
Senior forward Rick Jackson tallied 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks in the first half for SU. Senior guard Scoop Jardine has six points and two assists. Junior forward Kris Joseph hasn’t done much. Currently, No. 32 is 0-for-4 from the field with just one point. SU shot 11-of-31 (35.5) from the field in the first half.
