Morning Coffee! SU Hoop Team Is Good? Really?

Good morning, New York sports fans! Let's start today's tour of the New York sports scene in a little bit of a different place.

  • We will start with Syracuse basketball. The Orange improved to 9-0 Tuesday night with a 72-58 victory over Michigan State in a meeting of two teams ranked in the Top 10. There have been some questions about SU as some of its early-season performances have been spotty, but maybe the Orange are actually pretty good.

  • The New York Jets and their fans are still reeling from Monday's disastrous performance against New England. Let's see how well they recover this week against the Miami Dolphins.

  • Way too much is being made of Derek Jeter using the word "angry" when he talked Tuesday about how the negotiations for his new deal with the New York Yankees were handled. It's much ado about nothing.

  • The local hockey squads did not get much love (meaning none at all) in the most recent SB Nation NHL Power Rankings. Of course, they really don't deserve a whole lot.

  • The New York Knicks are sixth in the Eastern Conference in SB Nation's latest NBA Power Rankings. The respect is coming -- slowly -- for the Knicks.

  • The season started optimistically for the New Jersey Nets, but the losses are beginning to pile up. The Nets lost for the fifth straight time Tuesday, falling to Atlanta, 116-101.
