Good morning, New York sports fans! Here is today's first look at the local sports scene.

  • It will be interesting to check the college football rankings when the polls come out a little bit later on today. Syracuse is 6-2 after pounding Cincinnati, 31-7, Saturday and I'm curious to see how much support the Orange get from the voters. It has been a looooooong time since Syracuse football was relevant nationally, and it will be interesting to see if voters recognize the program's resurgence.

  • The New York Jets are back in action today when they host the Green Bay Packers at New Meadowlands Stadium. Jets coach Rex Ryan called his squad "the best team in the NFL" earlier this week, and with a shot at a sixth straight victory today the Jets can make a good case that Ryan is right.

  • The New York Knicks lost their home opener to the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday night, 100-95.

  • On the ice, The New York Rangers were winners on Saturday, beating Toronto, 2-0, while the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils lost.

  • The New York Red Bulls defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, 1-0, in the first game of their two-game total goals MLS Cup semifinal series.
