The Syracuse Orange football program has accepted an invitation to play in the Pinstripe Bowl, the school announced Sunday in a press release. This will be the second time in three seasons the Orange (7-5) will participate in the Pinstripe Bow, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, and will kickoff at approximately 3:15 p.m. ET.
Syracuse's opponent is not yet known, but it will be a team from the Big 12 Conference.
Most experts are predicting the West Virginia Mountaineers (7-5), who used to be a long-time Big East rival of the Orange. The two programs used to annually play for the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy.
Other opponents could be the Baylor Bears and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
"What an honor to be invited to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and once again be affiliated with the Yankee organization, which we consider the greatest sports franchise in history, "said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross in the press release.
This will be the last season Syracuse will be eligible to participate in the Pinstripe Bowl, as it will leave the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference next season.
In 2010, Syracuse defeated the Kansas St. Wildcats, 36-34, in the Pinstripe Bowl claiming its first postseason victory in since 2001.
