Big East Football Standings 2012: Rutgers drops first game

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights couldn't fend off Kent State, losing their first game of the year, although their conference record remained unblemished. Louisville is now the only undefeated team in the Big East.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights fell victim to the Kent State Golden Flashes, leaving the Louisville Cardinals as the last undefeated team in the Big East.

Two weeks ago, there were three undefeated teams in the conference, but the MAC trimmed that trio to one. Cincinnati lost on the road at Toledo last week, and Saturday the Scarlet Knights were handled easily in a home loss to Kent State, losing 35-23. Both MAC squads are strong, but the losses are still disappointing for teams now chasing Louisville.

The Cardinals stayed at 8-0, although they're technically behind Rutgers in the standings, as they've played one less conference game. Syracuse moved to 3-1 with a come-from-behind 37-36 victory over South Florida, scoring with three seconds left on the clock to win. The Orange still hypothetically have an outside chance at a conference title, but they'd have to win out and get lots of help from the teams ahead of them in the standings.

Here's a look at the full conference standings:
