Syracuse basketball score: Orange crush 49ers, 84-53

No. 4-ranked Syracuse improved to 7-0 Thursday with a 84-53victory over visiting Long Beach State.

SYRACUSE -- Junior forward C.J. Fair tallied a double-double with a game-high 16 points and collegiate-best 13 rebounds to propel the No. 4-ranked Syracuse Orange to a rout of visiting Long Beach St. 49ers, 84-53, at the Carrier Dome.

Sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams scored 15 points and dished out 10 assists, while senior guard Brandon Triche scored in double figures (11 points) for the seventh straight game to help the Orange improve to 7-0 overall.

SU also extended the school record and nation's longest home winning streak to 27 games, while head coach Jim Boeheim moved within three victories of the 900 mark. Boeheim has five more wins before tying Bob Knight for second on the all-time list.

The 49ers (3-5) were paced by Dan Jennings' 20 points. Peter Pappageorge (11 points) and James Ennis (10) also scored in double figures for Long Beach State, which trailed 16-4 in the first 5:30 of the game.

The 49ers were able to trim Syracuse's lead to 25-19 but never could get closer.

Overall, Syracuse went 16-for-21 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded Long Beach State, 53-39.

Syracuse's next game will be Saturday against Monmouth Hawks (7 p.m. on SNY). The 49ers head to Columbus to play No. 7 Ohio. St. Buckeyes (noon ET).
