SYRACUSE - Senior guard Brandon Triche scored a game-high 19 points and sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams added 12 points and 13 assists to help the No. 4-ranked Syracuse Orange defeat the Canisius Golden Griffins, 85-61, in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Carrier Dome.
The victory extended the school's and nation's longest home winning streak to 29 games and helped Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim collect his 899th all-time win.
Boehiem will have a chance to become just the third coach in Division I men's basketball history to reach the 900-win mark on Monday against the Detroit Titans.
Syracuse (9-0) actually trailed Canisius (6-2), 32-30, with 2:23 to play in the first half. However, the Orange took control of the game thanks to a 20-3 run that helped them take a commanding 50-35 advantage.
From there, Syracuse never looked back.
The Griffins were paced by guard Billy Baron and Isaac Sosa, who each scored a team-high 15 points.
As expected Canisius attempted a large number of 3-pointers (28) and made 12. The Griffins were not able to overcome a turnover (17-10) and an assist margin (21-11) that favored Syracuse.
Sophomore forward Rakeem Christmas (10 points) was the only other SU player to score in double figures
