NCAA Women's Tournament 2012: Rutgers Upset In Round One

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights women's basketball team has been bounced from the 2012 NCAA Tournament after suffering a loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the first round. Rutgers entered the game as a six seed, playing the lower-seeded Gonzaga, but the 11 seed prevailed, with the Bulldogs winning, 86-73.

Erica Wheeler, who dropped a game-high 28 points, including six three pointers, led Rutgers in the loss, along with Khadijah Rushdan, who recorded the game's only double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The biggest difference in the game was the free throw discrepancy between the two teams. The Bulldogs attempted 33 free throws, compared to only 24 for the Scarlet Knights.

Gonzaga awaits the winner of Miami (FL) vs. Idaho State in the second round.
