Senior forward Justin Brownlee has a game-best 10 points, while teammate senior guard Dwight Hardy has nine points for the visiting St. John’s Red Storm who have taken a 35-30 halftime lead against the Cincinnati Bearcats in a Big East Conference game at the Fifth Third Arena.
Brownlee scored all of his points in the first nine minutes and propelled the Red Storm (14-9, 6-5 Big East) to an early 19-14 advantage. St. John’s extended its margin to 24-14 at the half’s mid-way mark, but Cincinnati (19-5, 6-5) rallied behind seven first half 3-pointers. Junior guard Dion Dixon is pacing the Bearcats with 10 points, while teammate freshman guard Sean Kilpatrick has nine, including three 3-point baskets.
St. John’s finished the half shooting 15-of-26 (57.7 percent) from the floor and 3-of-9 from behind the 3-point land. Cincinnati shot 10-of-27 (37.0) and 7-of-15 (46.7) from 3-point land. Currently, the Bearcats lead in rebounds, 14-13, and have one more turnover, 8-7, than the Johnnies.
