The St. John's basketball program will look to enter its exam break on a winning note Monday, as it plays at the University of Detroit in a non-conference game at Calihan Hall (7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2). The Red Storm (4-4), who have lost four of their last five games, will be playing their final game before heading into a 11-day break from exams. The Titans (3-6) of the Horizon League will be dedicating its home court to their former head coach and now ESPN college basketball personality Dick Vitale.
The Johnnies are coming off a 81-59 drubbing last Thursday at the University of Kentucky, who's ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll. Junior forward God'sgift Achiuwa compiled a team-best 18 points and collected 10 rebounds, while teammate, freshman Moe Harkless, netted 16 points and added 10 boards.
On Saturday, Detroit fell to 0-2 in the Horizon League after dropping a 66-61 affair to Cleveland State. Last Thursday, the Titans lost to Youngstown State, 64-61. On Nov. 14, Detroit was edged by the University of Notre Dame 59-52.
Senior guard Chase Simon paces Detroit in scoring with 16.1 points per game, while sophomore guard Ray McCallum nets 14.1 ppg. Junior forward Doug Anderson is averaging 10.2 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
