SB Nation New York College Hoops: Saturday Stunners

I'll admit it. I turned off the game between Fordam University and St. John's University last night.

If you did the same, you missed a heck of a finish as the Rams rallied to beat the Red Storm, 84-81, at Rose Hill Gym on Saturday night.

According to the Associated Press:

"Fordham (5-4) trailed 60-39 with 16:12 to play. But the Rams used a 15-3 run midway through the second half, capped by Chris Gaston's layup with 6:08 left, to give Fordham a 74-73 lead."

"St. John's regained the lead at 81-80 on free throws by Paris Horne with 1:38 left. But the Red Storm (5-3) would score no more, as Dominique answered with two free throws and Brenton Butler added more cushion with a jumper to give Fordham the win."

Here's the complete recap from the Fordham's athletics website.

-- Syracuse forward Rick Jackson collected his eighth straight double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) as the Orange embarrassed its Upstate New York rivals, Colgate, 100-43 at the Carrier Dome.

The highlights of the night came when Jim Boeheim emptied the bench with about two and a half minutes to go in the game.

With the floor full of walk-ons, the Orange (10-0) tried to reach the century mark. Matt Lyde-Cajuste and Nick Resavy each netted 2-point baskets and helped Syracuse reach 100. The dome crowd reacted with a large roar.

-- Early in the day, Rutgers beat Auburn, 63-54, in game one of the SEC-Big East Invitational held in Pittsburgh, PA.

In the night cap, No. 11 Tennessee defeated No. 3 Pittsburgh, 83-76.
