Undrafted Free Agents 2012: Joe Martinek, Desmond Stapleton Of Rutgers Sign

A pair of Rutgers players who were not selected during the 2012 NFL Draft have already signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.

Running back Joe Martinek will go to camp with the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants [see complete list of Giants UDFA signings]. Offensive lineman Desmond Stapleton will join the Pittsburgh Steelers, where his brother, Darnell, started for a Super Bowl winning team before a knee injury ended his playing career.

The Giants called Martinek “a gritty, hard-nosed football player.”

Stapleton, in a recent interview with SB Nation New York, had said he was just "hoping to get into a camp.” He now has that opportunity.

Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was the only member of the Scarlet Knights selected in the draft. He was taken in third round, 83rd, overall, by the Cincinnati Bengals.
