The New England Patriots have reportedly re-signed wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, a former Rutgers Scarlet Knights player, for the 2012 season (via Boston Herald).
Underwood was oddly released by the Patriots on the Saturday before this season's Super Bowl against the New York Giants, which New York won 21-17. The Patriots also promoted defensive end Alex Silvestro (another former Scarlet Knight) from the practice squad after releasing Underwood. However, the move was reportedly made for defensive line depth and not disciplinary reasons (via Boston Herald).
The Patriots' release of Underwood the night before the big game was the third time he was released by the team during the season. The former Rutgers receiver made 3 receptions for 30 yards in six games with the Patriots in 2011. Underwood was originally drafted by the Jaguars in 2009.
