The Rutgers Scarlet Knights announced the addition of the Arkansas Razorbacks from the SEC to their 2012 and 2013 schedules (via Rutgers). Rutgers will travel to Fayetteville to play Arkansas during the upcoming season (Sept. 22) and host the Razorbacks at High Point Solutions Stadium on Sept. 21, 2013.
Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti said about the scheduling of Arkansas
"It is a constant priority to secure marquee scheduling opportunities for our football program and our fans," said Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti. "This home-and-home series with Arkansas clearly illustrates another enhancement of that strategy. We are excited to have the Razorbacks as the first-ever SEC opponent to play at High Point Solutions Stadium and this agreement further enhances our future non-conference game schedule which includes Penn State, Miami and UCLA."
Arkansas should start off the 2012 season fairly high in the polls after an 11-2 season which was capped off with a Cotton Bowl win. Rutgers and Arkansas have never met in football.
Rutgers is 5-11-2 all-time against SEC competition. In their last matchup with an SEC team in 2004, Rutgers defeated Vanderbilt, 37-34. Rutgers is 2-4 all-time at home against the SEC. All six of those games were played at Giants Stadium.
With the departure of West Virginia from the Big East for the Big 12, Rutgers still has one hole on their 2012 schedule.
