Rutgers Football Recruiting 2012: Greg Schiano Departure May Cost Scarlet Knights Two Of Top 20 Uncommitted Prospects

Just days removed from the departure of former head coach Greg Schiano leaving to join the NFL ranks and days away from National Signing Day, Feb. 1, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football program is trying to secure their verbal commitments for the Class of 2012.

However, according to an article from the National Football Post, Rutgers, which is still without an official head coach, could lose out on quarterback Devin Fuller and defensive end Darius Hamilton, who are each ranked in the website's Top 20 uncommitted prospects.

"Fuller is currently in Arizona for his official visit with Rich Rod and the Wildcats," wrote Dave Miller. "He will announce his decision on Sunday, so the Wildcats will have the final word. He also has taken official visits to UCLA, Nebraska, Rutgers and TCU. There were some who believed that Rutgers could get him to stay in state, but the departure of Greg Schiano really hurts the program's chances of landing the signal-caller."

Meanwhile, Hamilton will probably now commit to the Florida Gators, says Miller:

"....The son of former New York Giants lineman Keith Hamilton may be leaning toward the Gators now that Schiano is no longer the head coach of the Scarlet Knights," said Miller. "Hamilton's an instinctive pass rusher who has a quick first step and will be ready to play early situationally."

Hamilton's announcement is expected to come Tuesday night.
