The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will host the Depaul Blue Demons on Wednesday night at The RAC in Big East Conference men's basketball action.
Rutgers (11-9, 3-4) is coming off of a heartbreaking loss last Saturday against Georgetown, when it lost 72-70 on the road. Mike Rice has done a very nice job with this young team. The Scarlet Knights have been inconsistent but at times have flashed brilliance.
Led by freshman guards Eli Carter and Myles Mack, Rutgers looks like a possible dark-horse to make the NCAA tournament if it can string some good performances together. Teams with good guards typically do very well down the stretch which bodes well for Jersey boys. All that said, the Scarlet Knights need to take care of business against lesser or even teams.
Depaul on the other hand is still rebuilding. The Blue Demons (10-9, 1-6) have lost five games in a row (all in conference) and appear to be in free-fall. Frankly, Depaul has been getting blown out on a consistent basis and will need a big games tonight from Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young.
Melvin is averaging 18 points and six rebounds per game while Young is pouring in 16 points and dishing four and a half assists per night.
If Rutgers can play a good, smart team game tonight it should be in fine shape. Taking care of the ball is an absolute must against an inferior opponent.
The game can be seen on SNY and is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off.
