Rutgers Football Recruiting 2012: Scarlet Knights Have Just 16 Commitments

With just eight days left before National Signing Day the Rutgers University football program has received only 16 commitments from high school players intending to enroll at the Piscataway school this fall.

The Rutgers recruiting class is currently ranked 49th in the country by, including fifth in the eight-team Big East Conference. The Scarlet Knights have commitments from 11 three-star recruits, two four-star recruits and have not gotten commitments from any five-star recruits.

Offensive lineman J.J. Denman, a 6-foot-6, 300-pounder from Pennsbury SHS, is one of the two four-star recruits. Here is a brief overview of Denman from ESPN:

The big man displays the flexibility, agility, and playing strength for the tackle position. His strength at this point is in the run game and he can be a tough and even potentially dominating run blocker which makes him not only a good pick-up but he helps address a need. While he has the tools to work with he still needs to develop as a pass blocker.

The second four-star recruit is wide receiver Leonte Carroo, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J. Carroo “brings size, speed, strength, leaping ability, concentration, and production to the recruiting table and does everything expertly and with ease,” said one scouting report.
