Rutgers meets Stony Brook on Saturday in the front end of a doubleheader as part of the 2011 Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival (noon).
Under second-year coach Mike Rice, Rutgers is 1-2 at Madison Square Garden, with all three games coming last season. The Scarlet Knights fell to North Carolina 78-55 on Dec. 28 of last year, bounced back with an overtime victory against Seton Hall and dropped a two-point decision to St. John's in the Big East tournament.
Rutgers has played in the Holiday Festival on eight occasions, but not since 2000, when the Scarlet Knights opened with a 58-52 loss to Hofstra before outlasting Princeton 53-39.
Saturday's game will be Stony Brook's first ever at Madison Square Garden. The Seawolves (3-5) have dropped all three games against BCS opponents, including a 66-51 loss to Boston College on Sunday. All five Seawolves losses have come on the road.
