Rutgers ended a two-game losing streak Monday night, defeating Monmouth, 81-66, at home. While they only led by three at the half, the Scarlet Knights turned up the heat at the start of the second stanza including a 12-0 run to put them up by 15.
They never looked back.
Freshman point guard Eli Carter led Rutgers with 21 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal. Monmouth's Will Campbell came off the bench to score 13 points and five rebounds with one steal in a losing effort.
Rutgers, which moves on to play the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday at noon, improves to 5-5 (0-0 Big East). The Hawks, who will challenge the Rider Broncs on Thursday night at home, fall to 2-9 (0-2 NEC) in defeat.
