Reeling from two consecutive home losses, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights look to find the winning column again Monday night at home against Monmouth (7:30 p.m.).
Rutgers lost home games to LSU and Princeton last week by a combined seven points, falling to 4-5 on the season. Down by 17 points in the second half Wednesday against Princeton, Rutgers rallied to tie the game at 52 with 2:33 remaining. But Ian Hummer scored a bucket with 2.7 seconds remaining to give Princeton the two-point win, 59-57. Rutgers was led by freshmen guards Eli Carter (17 points) and Myles Mack (11).
Monmouth lost eight straight to begin the season, all on the road, but have won their past two. Seven of the 14 players on Monmouth's roster are new to college basketball, giving the Hawks a steep learning curve. Jesse Steele is Monmouth's lone player averaging double figures with 11.3.
