The Big East Conference dropped its first bowl game of the 2010-'11 postseason.
On Tuesday night, the West Virginia Mountaineers lost to the N.C. State Wolfpack, 23-7, in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, FL.
West Virginia (9-4) was done in by five second-half turnovers. Quarterback Geno Smith passed for just 196 yards.
N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson tossed for 275 and two touchdowns to lead his team past the Big East co-champs.
The next Big East bowl game will be held on Thursday afternoon when the Syracuse Orange plays the Kansas St. Wildcats in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium (3:20 p.m. on ESPN).
