A three-decade old rivalry may see its conclusion Saturday when the No. 20-ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights host the Syracuse Orange in a Big East Conference football game at High Point Solutions Stadium (Noon ET on the Big East Network). The Scarlet Knights are 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the league, and are coming off a 19-3 victory over the Connecticut Huskies. The Orange are 2-3 overall, 1-0 in the league, and defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 14-13, last Saturday. This will be SU's final contest against Rutgers as members of the Big East, as next season the Orange will be moving the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Rutgers opened as a 7 1/2-point favorite over Syracuse according to the oddsmakers. This will be the third time this season the Orange will enter a game as the underdog. The Scarlet Knights are 3-2 against the spread.
Entering the game, Rutgers is one of the 15 unbeaten teams in the country. This is the first time since 2006 that the Scarlet Knights are unbeaten through their first five games. Meanwhile, Syracuse's win over Pitt last week snapped an eight-game losing streak to Football Bowl Championship Subdivision opponents.
Overall, the Orange hold a 30-11-1 record against Rutgers all-time including wins in two of the last three meetings. Last season, the Scarlet Knights defeated the Orange, 19-16, in overtime. In '10, Syracuse downed Rutgers in Piscataway, 13-10.
The game is schedule to start at Noon ET and will be broadcasted on the Big East Network.
