The Rutgers Scarlet Knights is the top team in the Big East according to the first round of BCS Rankings which were released Sunday night, taking the No. 15 spot.
Kyle Flood's undefeated squad was ranked as high as No. 10 by some computers, averaging out at No. 11. However, they were hurt by their placement at No. 17 in the two human polls that factor into the BCS standings, the Harris and USA Today Coaches rankings.
The 6-0 Scarlet Knights are below the Louisville Cardinals in both the AP and Coaches polls, but came in one spot higher in the BCS standings thanks to the computers. The Cincinnati Bearcats were third in the conference at No. 21.
Alabama surprised nobody with an almost unanimous position at the top of the standings, with Florida surprising with a No. 2 ranking despite almost universal status amongst human pollsters as the No. 3 team behind Oregon. The SEC led the way with seven teams, while the Big East's three is impressive considering the Big Ten failed to place any teams in the top 25.
