A one-yard touchdown run by senior tailback Jawan Jamison has helped the No. 20-ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights take a 7-0 lead on the Syracuse Orange. The Big East Conference football game has reached the conclusion of the first quarter.
Jamison's third touchdown of the season capped an impressive 10-play, 93-yard drive that ended with 4:52 to play in the quarter. The march was highlighted by a 43-yard catch-and-run by junior wide receiver Brandon Coleman, who was tackled at the SU one-yard line. Two plays later, Jamison scored on a halfback dive.
Rutgers sophomore quarterback Gary Nova has completed five of his seven passes for 83 yards. Jamison has rushed for nine yards on eight carries.
The Orange's first drive of the game marched all the way down to the Scarlet Knight 25-yard line, however, it stalled when SU was called for a holding penalty and then senior quarterback Ryan Nassib was sacked for a 11-yard loss on second down. The Orange failed to convert a 3rd-and-26 and was forced to punt.
Syracuse will begin the second quarter with the ball a Rutgers' 17-yard line facing a 2nd-and-7 situation.
