New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler is listed as day-to-day following an MRI on Thursday that revealed a bone bruise in his left knee, according to Ian Begley of ESPN New York. As of this time, it's unclear as to whether he will be available for opening night against the Brooklyn Nets next Thursday.

Chandler sustained the injury on Wednesday night during the Knicks' final preseason game after he collided with Gerald Wallace of the Nets. While he was able to walk off the court under his own power, he did leave the arena with the assistance of crutches.

During his media availability after the game, Chandler expressed confidence that the injury was nothing to be concerned about and predicted that he would only have to take a few days off before returning to practice. He stated that he believed he would be able to play in the season opener.

The Knicks will open the season on Nov. 1 in the first regular season game at the newly constructed Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.

New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler will get an MRI Thursday on the knee he injured in the team's final preseason game. How concerning is his injury?

New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler hurt his knee in Wednesday's preseason finale against the Brooklyn Nets in a collision with Gerald Wallace. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday. However, he did not sound concerned in an interview with CBS New York:

"I just feel like I have a sprain or something like that," said Chandler. "I'm sure I'll stay off it the next couple of days and then pick up work with my teammates leading into the first game of the season."

While Chandler left the game under his own power, he did leave the Barclays Center with crutches. The Knicks aren't going to risk further injury to last year's Defensive Player of the Year. Knicks guard Carmelo Anthony doesn't think that the injury is serious himself:

"Probably a real bad bruise, I don't know how they're going to call it. Good thing is now preseason is over with, we got a week before the real thing starts, so hopefully he gets himself back ready."

The Knicks will already be without forward Amare Stoudemire for the team's season opener against the Nets on Nov. 1 because of a cyst behind his left knee. The game will be nationally televised and will be the first professional sports regular-season game to be held in Brooklyn in more than 50 years.

The New York Knicks ability to contend this season all comes down to the health of Amare Stoudemire according to Magic Johnson.

The New York Knicks season comes down the the health of power forward Amare Stoudemire, at least according to Magic Johnson. The ESPN analyst said that the Knicks need Stoudemire to stay healthy and play a full season, something he hasn't done since coming to New York.

Stoudemire is out 2-3 weeks with a ruptured cyst in the back of his left knee which has caused him to miss all but one of the Knicks preseason games. It is expected that he will miss up to the first five games of the season.

Johnson said the Knicks need to get their whole team healthy, mentioning both Marcus Camby and Iman Shumpert. Johnson said without a full team, the Knicks rely too much on Carmelo Anthony's scoring. Magic added "If they have a full team and they can stay healthy, yeah they could (challenge Miami)."

The Knicks finished last season 36-30 as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks open their season against the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 1 and host the Miami Heat on Nov. 2.

What does Rasheed Wallace bring to the table after two years away from the NBA? No one really knows for sure.

Rasheed Wallace has never been one to shy away from attention. His big mouth and antics have often overshadowed his usefulness on the court during his 15-year career. So it's no wonder that after two years of retirement, the 38-year-old has decided to hit the court again under the Broadway lights.

This time, though, the power forward has no assurances of a roster spot or playing time. The New York Knicks signed Wallace on Oct. 3 to a $1.7 million contract with no guarantees until Jan. 5, according to the New York Post, thus the two sides could part ways and the team would not be on the hook for the rest of the money owed.

Wallace has played 1,088 game in his career, so he's another veteran the Knicks brought in this offseason -- names that include Jason Kidd, Kurt Thomas and Marcus Camby -- who adds to the league's oldest roster. The power forward is a four-time All-Star and won one NBA championship, in 2004 with the Portland Trailblazers, the team he spent eight years
with. The 6-foot-11, 230-pound Wallace has career averages of 14.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks and a career 33.7 percent mark from the 3-point line. Wallace has played for four other teams in his career, being drafted by the Washington Wizards (then Bullets), spending one game with the Atlanta Hawks, then being sent to the Detroit Pistons, where he spent just over five years. Even though he reached the NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics in 2010, age took its toll that year and he struggled, ultimately deciding to call it quits.

Wallace wasn't exactly the same dynamic player he's been during his career with the Celtics in his "final" year, and he reportedly wasn't in the best shape during his tryout with New York. There has been no reports of injuries thus far in the preseason, yet it took him three weeks to take part in his first practice as he wasn't even fit for that. Now that his conditioning has improved, the big man seems close to game action, but it still doesn't appear like he'll play Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Speaking of which, what should the Knicks expect from Wallace once he steps on the court? It's reassuring (or maybe not) that coach Mike Woodson has set very low expectations since Day 1.

"It's not like we're looking at a player who's going to play a lot of minutes," Woodson said as reported by ESPNNY. "He's an insurance policy and (a) what-if. "If he gets in and plays 5-10 minutes, we've got to hope it's the best 5-10 minutes to help us win basketball games. We've got enough guys on this team that we don't have to play guys a lot of minutes."

In most situations, Wallace would've probably received his pink slip by now. One day of practice. No games played. Two years off. Those aren't the words you want to hear, even if it's about the last man on the roster. Wallace's "stay" may be prolonged because Woodson says Wallace is closer to making an impact than Camby, who has dealt with a calf injury all preseason. Amare Stoudemire also is battling a knee injury and the team is "cautiously optimistic" that he'll return in two-to-three weeks. The season starts Nov. 1 and because of these injuries, the power forward has time to prove that he can be effective in short spurts.

For a few minutes a night, Wallace may be an effective post defender as someone who can clog the lane, and he still has at least the threat of the long-range shot that has always made him very tough to guard. But does he have anything else to offer? Is he over-the-hill? The Knicks may not have any other choice but to find that out -- but luckily, they've got another few months to see what's left in the tank.

Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points, but a halftime tie turned into a blowout loss as the New York Knicks dropped their first preseason game 107-88 Friday evening at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. The game marked the third of six consecutive preseason road games for the Knicks; and several projected regulars, including Rasheed Wallace, Marcus Camby, Iman Shumpert, and J.R. Smith sat the game out.

Amar'e Stoudemire added 18 points on 8-11 shooting, but pulled down only five rebounds and picked up five fouls in 27 minutes of play. No other Knicks scored in double digits. Disappointing performances were the story of the game for New York. Point guard Raymond Felton turned in a performance that was reminiscent of his last season in Portland (4-11 shooting, six turnovers), while Jason Kidd also struggled, shooting 1-5 with only one assist in 23 minutes. Tyson Chandler pulled down only three rebounds with 2-8 mark from the charity stripe. 35-year old Argentine Pablo Prigioni was one of the few bright spots for New York, making 3-4 field goals and dishing out five assists in 19 minutes. The Knicks in general were plagued by sloppy play (17 turnovers) and poor shooting (5-27 from downtown).

Toronto had a balanced attack, with five players scoring in double-digits. Andrea Bargnani led the Raptors with 20 points. Toronto, boosted by a 46.2% shooting percentage from downtown, also saw double-digit scoring from Kyle Lowry (17), Amir Johnson (14), DeMar DeRozan (13), and John Lucas (12). Former Knick Landry Fields had six points, five rebounds, and five assists in 27 minutes of action.

The Knicks return to action on Saturday night in Boston for a 7:30 tip-off with the Celtics.

Former New York Knick Landry Fields will try to get the best of his old team on Friday night.

The New York Knicks will look to remain undefeated in the preseason when they take on the Raptors in Toronto on Friday night.

The Knicks have not played since Saturday, when they narrowly beat the Celtics, 98-95. The New York starters played well last week, and Carmelo Anthony led the charge with 23 points.

The big news for the Knicks will be the return of Amare Stoudemire. The 6-11 power forward did not travel with the team to Boston last weekend, but he is expected to return to action tonight, following a week of practice with the team. Stoudemire has been out with a knee injury that he suffered during training camp.

Last year, the Knicks and Raptors split their regular season series 2-2. The Raptors (2-1 this preseason) are fresh off a victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. Landry Fields led Toronto in scoring with 15 points.

Marcus Camby hopes to be ready for the New York Knicks' season opener, although he might not take the court in any of the team's six preseason games.

Camby hasn't yet taken the court in his second stint with the Knicks, as the 38-year-old has sat out of practice ever since straining his camp three days into training camp. He also won't attempt to practice before the team's upcoming road trip that will see them play three games in four days beginning Friday. But Camby feels like he'll be ready to return to the practice court next Tuesday, over two weeks after an injury originally meant to keep him out for one. He should be ready to back up Tyson Chandler by the time the season-opener rolls around on Nov. 1.

This year's Knicks have already taken on a reputation for being injury-prone, in part thanks to their age. In addition to Camby, 39-year-old Rasheed Wallace is still not in condition to play and while Ronnie Brewer is returning to the court, J.R. Smith was in a walking boot Wednesday, although that injury is not believed to keep him out of any preseason games.

Debby Wong US PRESSWIRE

Marcus Camby is back with the Knicks for a second time, and his game really hasn't changed. He is still all about defense and rebounding.

The drama surrounding fan favorite Jeremy Lin and his departure from New York may have taken most of the New York Knicks' offseason headlines, but it's the "smaller" moves -- including the addition of an old friend -- that could prove to be just as crucial.

The Knicks in early July dealt Toney Douglas, Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan in a sign-and-trade -- in addition to cash, second-rounders in 2014 and 15 -- for center Marcus Camby, who received a three-year, $13.2 million contract, with the third year only partially guaranteed. It was a move that symbolized the offseason for the Knicks: add depth and gain experience at relatively low costs.

Camby, a 17-year veteran who has competed for six teams, played for the Knicks early in his career, from 1998 to 2002, before being dealt to the Denver Nuggets for Antonio McDyess. Camby was a member of the last Knicks team to reach the NBA Finals, in 1999. That team lost in five games to the San Antonio Spurs.

New York is not bringing Camby back to add offense. The Camby Man averages only 9.7 points per game in his career and is pretty much entirely a rebounder and defensive specialist, averaging 4.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in 23 minutes last season, one that was spent with the Portland Trailblazers and Houston Rockets. Camby, who was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2007, will spell the 2012 winner and a guy whose game is very similar to his in Tyson Chandler at center. Chandler averaged 33.2 minutes last year, and he's also coming off the Summer Olympics, so a few more minutes resting on the bench will help him stay fresh and healthy as the year progresses, and that's where Camby fits in. The two figure to be one of the best one-two center defensive punches in the league.

Though he's not as spry as he once was, the 38-year-old is still athletic enough to get down the court, he is still an excellent rebounder and a plus shot blocker. Camby grabbed 22.8 percent of available misses last year, a mark that was the highest in the NBA, and he corralled the second-highest percentage of defensive rebounds in the league to Dwight Howard. He was fifth in the league in offensive rebounding percentage as well. He'll clog up the lane and and be the focal point of the team's second-unit defense. New York allowed 97.8 points per game last year (11th in the league) and adding someone like Camby, who only creates more opportunities with his ability to rack up boards, can only help to keep that number in the league's top half.

Of course the risk of having a player at the tail-end of his career is durability, and Camby has dealt with his fair share of injuries lately. Though he played in 59 of 66 games last year, he hasn't exactly been the staple of good health throughout his career, and that's not likely to change with age. In 2012, he's already dealing with a calf strain, and he hasn't practiced since early October. Camby has missed the Knicks' first two preseason games, with more absences likely. He's a guy at this stage of his career who probably doesn't need a whole lot of game time to get ready, but it's also a reminder of the frustrations that may persist throughout the season with an older player, especially one with as many mileage as Camby.
