The New York Giants lost Kenny Phillips in the first quarter of Sunday night's game when he left with an apparent knee sprain. X-rays were negative, but its unclear how severe the injury is, or if he will miss playing time.

Kenny Phillips had to leave the New York Giants Sunday night loss against the Philadelphia Eagles with a knee injury, although its unclear how much time, if any, the safety will miss.

Phillips had stepped up to make a play on Lesean McCoy near the line of scrimmage, but his knee buckled when he attempted to change directions after a juke by McCoy. He walked off the field under his own power. X-rays were negative, and Philips was deemed doubtful to return with what was termed a sprain. After the game, Tom Coughlin said he thought Philips could be ready to play in next week's game against the Cleveland Browns, but offered no further details on his injury.

Secondary depth has been an issue up the Giants: Terrell Thomas suffered a season-ending surgery in preseason, and last night the team did not play cornerbacks Jayron Hosley and Michael Coe due to hamstring issues. Philips was replaced by Stevie Brown as well as typical nickelback Will Hill on Sunday night. The team returns Tyler Sash in Week 5 after he served a four-week suspension for violating league drug policy.

Phillips' was the only major injury suffered by the Giants in the game.

The New York Giants fell to 2-2 on Sunday after losing a 19-17 heartbreaker to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants woke up on Monday with a bitter taste in their mouths after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 19-17 on a last-second field goal attempt.

New York had its opportunities to win, but couldn't come through late. Eli Manning appeared to drive the Giants well within Lawrence Tynes' range for a game-winning kick before Ramses Barden moved them back 10 yards with an offensive pass interference penalty.

As Ed Valentine explains over at Big Blue View, there's plenty of blame to go around:

The most obvious goat is wide receiver Ramses Barden. Barden's offensive pass interference penalty, an obvious call as he mugged Philadelphia cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha along the right sideline, took the Giants from the 26-yard line to the 36, thus taking Tynes out of comfortable range.

However, Valentine also points out that Manning is also a culprit with some rough play in the second half:

Manning, with six fourth-quarter comebacks and a record-setting 15 fourth-quarter touchdown passes, also has to take some of the blame. The first play of the fourth quarter had to be an indication this was not business as usual for the Giants, as Manning inexplicably threw an interception in the end zone with the Giants at the Eagles' 14-yard line. Manning apparently never saw cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, who made an easy pick.

New York has plenty of time to make up for its early blunders. The biggest issue right now for the Giants is an 0-2 division record with one loss apiece against the two teams that figure to be their top contenders.

Opportunities were precious for the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, and the margin between Sunday night's Studs and Duds.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to have the New York Giants' number. The defending champions have dropped eight of their last nine meetings against the Birds after a 19-17 loss Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

"We knew it was going to be a game that was going to come down to the fourth quarter," said Eli Manning. "We knew we were going to have to earn every yard. They're a good defense, they're a good team. We had opportunities, we were close."

Such opportunities were precious on both sides, and the margin between Sunday night's Studs and Duds.

STUDS
LeSean McCoy
"Shady" had six carries for two yards at the half. He then ran for 56 yards on consecutive carries in the third third quarter to finish with 123 for the game.

Michael Vick
Ended any doubt (for now) he's the starting quarterback in Philadelphia. Vick was 19-of-30 for 241 yards and a touchdown. He threw scoring passes in the final two minutes in one-point wins in the season's first two weeks and piloted the Eagles 75 yards on 12 plays late in the fourth for the game's winning field goal.

Domenik Hixon
Hixon (six catches, 114 yards) was "next man up" in the absence of Hakeem Nicks.

DeSean Jackson
The Eagles' star wideout had six grabs for 99 yards and a touchdown while turning Giants cornerback Corey Webster inside out on numerous occasions in man coverage

Victor Cruz
Led the Giants with nine catches along with 109 yards and a touchdown that tied the game in the third.

DUDS
Ramses Barden
Ten days after a career night in Charlotte, Barden was held to two catches for 36 yards. His pass interference penalty on the Giants' final drive with less than 20 seconds left turned Lawrence Tynes' field-goal attempt from 44 to 54 yards. Tynes missed and the game was over.

Eli Manning

Manning completed 24-of-42 passes for 309 yards, two TDs and that crucial interception. He accepted the blame for the throw that forced Barden to commit the penalty.

The running game
Shades of last season as the Giants totaled only 57 yards on 19 carries on the ground, an average of 3.0. Andre Brown, one of the heroes in Carolina, had five attempts for 14 yards.

TURNING POINT
Manning's interception on the first play of the fourth quarter killed the momentum generated by his 30-yard pass to Cruz on fourth-and-1. The Eagles then drove 74 yards on 11 plays for a field goal that made it 16-10. Sure, the Giants eventually took the lead, but the 10-point swing proved devastating.

Lawrence Tynes came up about two yards short on a game-winning field goal try with 15 seconds remaining as the New York Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 19-17, Sunday night

Lawrence Tynes came up about two yards short on a game-winning field goal try with 15 seconds remaining as the New York Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 19-17, Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Tynes had two tries at the game-winner. He pulled one wide left, but Philadelphia coach Andy Reid called timeout. Tynes' second kick was straight enough, but fell short. Tynes had been 10-for-10 in field goals on the season.

Philadelphia had taken the lead with 1:49 remaining on a 26-yard field goal by Alex Henery.

Aided by two pass interference calls on the Eagles the Giants drove to the Philadelphia 26-yard line. An offensive pass interference call against wide receiver Ramses Barden pushed the Giants back to the 36-yard line, however, and they were unable to advance the ball from there.

Giants' quarterback Eli Manning completed 24-of-42 passes for 309 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.

Michael Vick completed 19-of-30 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown for Philadelphia. LeSean McCoy ran 23 times for 123 yards for the Eagles.

The Giants are 2-2.

A pair of third-quarter field goals by kicker Alex Henery has helped the Philadelphia Eagles earn a 13-10 lead over the visiting New York Giants in a Sunday Night Football game that reached the conclusion of the third quarter. However, the Giants will begin the fourth quarter with the ball facing a 1st-and-10 at the Eagles' 10-yard line.

Henery connected from 20 and 48 yards, the last came with 2:12 to go in the third quarter and gave the Eagles' a three-point advantage. Philadelphia used eight plays to march 50 yards to setup the field goal, which answered a touchdown drive by the Giants.

That score was a 14-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver Victor Cruz from quarterback Eli Manning. The march took just eight plays and went 57 yards in 4:27.

Just before the conclusion of the third quarter, Manning found Cruz on a 30-yard pass that converted a critical 4th-and-1 play. The catch could help setup a game-tying field goal or a go-ahead touchdown for the Giants.

A 19-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver DeSean Jackson from quarterback Michael Vick has helped the Philadelphia Eagles earn a 7-3 halftime lead on the visiting New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. Jackson's first touchdown of the season capped a 11-play, 70-yard drive that ended with 1:47 to go in the first half.

The Giants' answered the Eagles' score with a 24-yard field goal from kicker Lawrence Tynes. Quarterback Eli Manning helped New York march 81 yards in 10 plays to setup the kick which came with five second to go in the half.

So far, Jackson has tallied three catches for 62 receiving yards in the first half, while Vick completed 11 of 19 passes for 132 yards. Vick also has ran the ball for 19 yards on three carries, one of came on the touchdown drive and helped the Eagles' convert a 3rd-and-4 at the Giants' 24-yard line.

Before the pair of late second-quarter scores the contest showcased little offense. Both teams ended the first quarter without a tally on the scoreboard, as only the Eagles' moved inside its opponent's territory in the first 15 minutes. That drive, which stretched into the beginning of the second quarter, ended when the Eagles failed to convert on a 3rd-and-11 situation at the Giants' 45-yard line and was forced to punt on fourth down.

Meanwhile, the Giants had only one other drive to march inside Eagles' territory. That march stopped at the 49-yard line after Manning couldn't complete a pass on 3rd-and-3 and New York was forced to punt for the third time near midfield with about nine minutes to play in the first half.

Manning finished the first half 14-for-26 with 151 yards.

A knee injury has forced New York Giants' safety Kenny Phillips to leave Sunday night's showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles early, and according to the Giants' official Twitter feed his return is doubtful. Phillips, a five-year veteran that has spent his whole career with New York, went down in the first quarter with an apparent knee sprain.

Despite walking off on his own power, Phillips' return doesn't look good. In his place will be Stevie Brown, a three-year player out of the University of Michigan. This season, Brown has played in all three of the Giants' games and has recorded five tackles and one interception. In his career, Brown has played for the Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders.

The loss of Phillips could be key for the Giants (2-1), who are trying to earn sole possession of first place in the NFC East Division. New York is trying to extended its winning streak to three straight games.

Sunday night's Week 4 showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants has reached the end of the first quarter tied at 0-0. A victory would help the Giants (2-1) or Eagles (2-1) earn sole possession of first place in the NFC East Divisions standings.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning has struggled completing just 4 of 11 passes for 35 passing yards. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick hasn't been much better as he's 5-for-9 for 72 yards.

So far only the Eagles have surpassed the 50-yard line, as they will begin the second quarter with the ball on the Giants' 48-yard line facing a 2nd-and-10 situation. Philadelphia's other drives in the first quarter never got any further than its own 42-yard line.

New York twice has reached midfield but were forced to punt both times as they failed to convert on third-down situations. The Giants finished the first quarter with only 12 rushing yards.
