New York Giants second-year safety Tyler Sash was carted off the field during practice with a lower leg injury on Sunday, according to a report. There is no word on Sash's injury from the Giants and he was taken inside the locker room for evaluation.

Sash made five tackles (three solo) in the Giants' 20-17 preseason loss against the Chicago Bears on Friday. Sash was drafted out of Iowa by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He made 17 tackles and forced a fumble during his rookie season.

Earlier in the offseason, Sash was suspended for the first four games of the upcoming 2012 season for the use of adderall. Sash got a prescription for the drug to help him overcome anxiety during public speaking engagements. He said he did not know the substance was banned by the league.

Sash announced earlier on Sunday that he would have a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss the four-game suspension. The league has already rejected Sash's appeal of the four-game ban.

Ten things we learned Friday night during the New York Giants' 20-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The New York Giants lost to the Chicago Bears, 20-17, in an NFL preseason game. That really doesn't matter in the big picture. What does matter is the information that can be gleaned from the game as the Sept. 5 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys approaches.

Here are 10 things we learned Friday night.

- Rookie first-round pick David Wilson can play. He had five carries for 49 yards, and a 29-yard pass reception working with the first team. The Giants need big plays from their running game, worst in the league in 2011, and Wilson looks like he might be able to provide them.

- There is hope for Ramses Barden. The Giants have waited forever for the 6-foot-6 fourth-year wide receiver to show the ability they think he has. Friday night he did, with three catches for 46 yards, including a touchdown. He also drew a pass interference penalty in the end zone. Impressively, he did much of his damage against All-Pro cornerback Charles Tillman.

- The Giants can defend the run. With their first-team defense the Giants held the Bears to virtually nothing on the ground in the first half. That has been a point of emphasis for coach Tom Coughlin, and a concern with the rash of injuries at defensive tackle.

- The Giants have a problem at cornerback. Prince Amukamara has a high ankle sprain and when he will return is unknown. Rookie Jayron Hosley is out with turf toe. Terrell Thomas' return is in doubt as he continues to try to rehab his twice surgically-repaired knee. The Giants are down to Michael Coe and Bruce Johnson, who has missed two season with injuries, at the right cornerback spot.

[Related: Kudos & Wet Willies - Big Blue View]

- David Douglas is going to be difficult to cut. The undrafted free agent rookie wide receiver from Arizona was flawless handling punt and kickoff returns Friday night, areas where the Giants are looking for a steady hand. Douglas' two biggest plays, a 36-yard punt return and a 36-yard pass reception, won't show up on the stat sheet because they were wiped out by penalties.

- Chase Blackburn is going to hold off Mark Herzlich for the starting middle linebacker job. Herzlich seems to get hurt (a shoulder injury Friday night) every time he plays, and you can't win a job if you can't stay in the game.

- The Giants are having issues in punt blocking. For the second time this preseason Steve Weatherford had a punt blocked on Friday night. That can't continue to happen.

- Reuben Randle is going to earn a role in the giants' offense. Randle, the rookie wide receiver from LSU, had two catches for 21 yards and got open deep in the second half but David Carr was off target on the throw, which would have resulted in a long touchdown.

- Eli Manning is in regular-season form. He completed 17-of-21 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown.

- Linebacker Keith Rivers is going to be an excellent addition to the Giants. Filling in for Michael Boley on the weak side, Rivers showed excellent coverage skills and chased down Devin Hester in the open field on an end around. He has had an injury-plagued career, but you can see the ability when he is on the field.

On Friday night, the Chicago Bears edged the New York Giants, 20-17, in a Week 3 preseason battle between two NFC contenders.

As with any game, preseason or otherwise, Tom Coughlin met with the media after the game for a post-game press conference. Coughlin spoke about a number of players, including rookie running back David Wilson and wide receiver Ramses Barden.

Q: Did David Wilson show you some things?
A: He did. That was a nice thing to see. Ramses Barden did some nice things. That was good to see. That was the plan to see those people and some others. There were some others put in positions that we'll have to look at the tape before I make any comments on them.

Coughlin tempered expectations on Wilson, though.

Q: David Wilson has never seemed overwhelmed by any of it...
A: He may not have seemed overwhelmed but all the young people have trouble with protection. Just the knowledge of how to get to the person you're responsible for and that took place. So he's battled that and he still is. He still is. He has some play-making ability, which was shown tonight and that's something that we certainly can use.

Both Wilson and Barden played well on Friday, with Barden hauling in three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Wilson gained 49 yards on just five carries.

It's hard not to be noticed when you're 6-foot-6, but Ramses Barden somehow perfected the art of disappearing in his three nondescript seasons in the NFL.

Until Friday night, that is. The New York Giants' third-round pick in the 2009 draft had three catches for 46 yards in Big Blue's 20-17 loss to the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium. The highlight was an 11-yard touchdown grab, his first professional score and first since November 29, 2008, his final game for Cal Poly when he caught six passes for 108 yards and two TDs against Weber State.

"It's been a while since I was in the end zone," Barden said. "There was a time when I was used to it. Hopefully, it's the foundation for some more."

If Barden can cure the injury bug that's dogged him throughout his pro career, the prospects of him emerging as yet another weapon for Eli Manning are tantalizing. Barden's 15 catches in 17 career games made this preseason do or die for the big target. Friday's performance may have saved his spot on the Opening Night roster.

"They're all important, but for me, absolutely, because I've been here for a few years, and this is the healthiest I've been in a while," Barden said. "And I want to show that good feeling isn't going to waste. I want to be here for whatever this team needs me to do, offense, green zone. The more touchdowns I can get, the happier I'll be."

It was one game, but Barden left the field unscathed and his teammates impressed.

"He's a guy that can come in and help this team out and do a number of different things for us. I'm happy for him and glad he could step up and play well for us," Manning said.

The injury bug continued to bite Prince Amukamara of the New York Giants on Friday night when he suffered a high ankle sprain.

New York Giants' cornerback Prince Amukamara suffered a high ankle sprain during the first quarter of Friday night's 20-17 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. There is no word on how long Amukamara, the starting right cornerback, will be sidelined.

"It’s not fractured. They were saying high ankle. Dr. Warren thought it was mild so that’s what was told to me," head coach Tom Coughlin said after the game. "That term, high ankle, if it’s a mild sprain, perhaps it’s not going to take as much time to get back."

Amukamara was carted off the field after making a tackle on a short completion to Chicago wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Coughlin indicated that Amukamara had been hurt on the previous play.

"I’ve got to give him credit. Even when he was injured, he made that tackle over there on the sideline. We don’t think anybody knew what the injury was and we couldn’t get him off the field fast enough. He didn’t go down so he played one more play and they went right at him and he made the play," Coughlin said. "So yeah, he’s had some injuries, but he is a tough kid and I think he’ll come from this as fast as possible. How fast that is, I’m not sure."

Amukamara, the Giants' first-round draft choice in 2011, played only seven regular-season games last season after suffering a broken foot. With Terrell Thomas out due to continuing issues with his surgically-repaired knee, the Giants are counting on Amukamara this season.

The New York Giants lost to the Chicago Bears, 20-17, in an NFL preseason game Friday night at MetLife Stadium. The Giants led, 17-7, at halftime but the Bears scored 13 unanswered points in the second half when both teams were playing reserves.

Head coach Tom Coughlin wanted to see more production from his front-line offense on Friday night. Eli Manning, David Wilson and company delivered.

Wilson, the Giants first-round pick, carried five times for 49 yards. He also caught two passes for 26 yards. On a first-quarter drive that resulted in a field goal Wilson had carries of 15 and 20 yards, and a 29-yard pass reception.

Manning completed 17-of-21 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown, helping stake the Giants to a 17-7 halftime lead. Manning threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ramses Barden that gave the Giants a 10-7 second-quarter lead.

A blocked punt by running back Da'Rel Scott set the Giants up at the Chicago 11-yard line. After a pass interference call moved the ball to the one-yard line, Andre Brown scored on a one-yard run.

Victor Cruz had five first-half catches for 28 yards for New York. Barden had three catches for 46 yards.

The Bears rallied in the second half when both teams went to their reserves. A pair of third-quarter field goals by robbie Gould pulled Chicago within 17-13. A 12-yard pass from Jason Campbell to Joe Anderson gave Chicago a 20-17 lead, completing an 11-play, 58-yard drive.

The Giants had a chance to tie or win late in the game, but quarterback David Carr was intercepted in the end zone by Isiaih Frey.

Injury News

Cornerback Prince Amukamara was carted off early in the game. X-rays were negative and Amukamara was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. Linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka suffered a groin strain.

After one half at MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants lead the Chicago Bears 17-7. Giants rookie running back David Wilson was certainly the highlight of the first half as the Virginia Tech product lit up the Bears defense for 49 yards on five carries. Wilson got the start for the injured Ahmad Bradshaw and the 2012 1st Round pick took full advantage of the opportunity.

Wilson busted one outside on his second carry of the night for a 20-yard gain. The speedy and versatile back was also the recipient of two Eli Manning throws, which he converted for a total of 26 receiving yards. In what is often considered a "dress rehearsal" for the season, Wilson was the most positive takeaway in the first 30 minutes.

Despite Wilson's productivity, the Giants had to settle for a field goal on their second possession. After a 21-yard strike from Jay Cutler to Brandon Marshall, the G-men would break through for their first touchdown of the game to re-take the lead at 10-7. The 10-play, 59-yard drive took up more than six minutes and finished with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ramses Barden on the left side.

The Giants would extend the lead to 17-7 just before the half when running back Da'Rel Scott blocked a Bears punt attempt. New York recovered on the Chicago 10-yard line and after a pass interference call drawn by Barden in the end zone, Andre Brown punched it in from one yard out.

The one low point for the Giants in the first half was an injury to cornerback Prince Amukamara. The second year-player was injured while trying to tackle Brandon Marshall and was carted off the field. The Giants were calling it a lower leg injury, but it appeared to be an issue with the same foot that caused him to miss a majority of the 2011 season. But thankfully for the Giants, reports out of the locker room indicate that x-rays were negative.

New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara was carted off the field during Friday night's preseason game against the Bears with an apparent foot injury.

The injury happened to the same foot that caused Amukamara to miss a big chunk of the 2011 season. He was attempting to tackle Bears wideout Brandon Marshall when he went down. He was taken to the locker room on the cart for further examination and X-rays.

Amukamara was getting increased action with the first team in place of the already injured Terrell Thomas, who re-injured his knee. It was expected that he would play corner opposite Corey Webster. The Giants have not yet released the severity of the injury but his night in Chicago is certainly done.
