The New York Yankees lost 4-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night in Game 2 of their two-game series. The loss was the Yankees' third straight in three days starting with Game 2 against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Phil Hughes pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs and seven hits with five strikeouts. The two runs came off a two-run Jose Bautista home run that also brought Yunel Escobar around home.

The Yankees held a 1-0 lead after the first inning thanks to a Robinson Cano double to score Curtis Granderson. Granderson had two hits and a walk in his three plates appearances. Outside of Cano, no other Yankee made it on base more than once on the night. Toronto starter Drew Hutchinson gave up all five of the Yankees' team hits in his six innings on the mound, walking four and striking out three to earn the win.

Cory Wade took over for Hughes in the sixth with one out and two men on, and was able to get out of the inning. He was less lucky in the seventh. J.P. Arencibia hit another two-run homer to put the Blue Jays up 4-1. Casey Janssen earned his third save in four games.

The Yankees return home for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m ET.

The Toronto Blue Jays welcomed the New York Yankees to the Great White North with an 8-1 drubbing on Wednesday night. New York will try and get split in the two-game series on Thursday night, hoping that starter Phil Hughes continues his recent hot streak.

Hughes won both of his last two starts, allowing a total of four earned runs during that span. He struck out 11 batters and walked only 2 in more than 14 innings of work. If Hughes can give the Yankees another quality start, it would be the team's first in its last four games.

Right-hander Drew Hutchinson is on the bump for the Blue Jays. This is just the sixth start for the rookie and his first ever against the Yankees. In Hutchinson's last outing, he went six innings, allowing just one run for a win over the Minnesota Twins. He is 2-1 with a 5.53 ERA on the season.

The game starts at 7:07 p.m. Fans can watch it live on the YES Network as well as the MLB Network.

The New York Yankees dropped the first game of a two-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night north of the border. Starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up seven earned runs in a lopsided 8-1 loss.

Kuroda allowed three home runs, including a two-run shot to J.P. Arencibia in the second inning and a three-run homer to Edwin Encarnacion in the third. Jose Bautista took him deep for a solo shot in the fifth inning. Kuroda's ERA ballooned from 3.56 to 4.50.

New York's hitters had no answers for Blue Jays righty Kyle Drabek, who gave up just one run on three hits. Mark Teixeira accounted for the Yankees' only run on a sixth-inning single for his 20th RBI of the season.

The Yankees try again on Thursday night against the Blue Jays. They have now lost three of their last four games.

After splitting a short two-game series with the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles the New York Yankees cross the border into Canada Wednesday to begin another brief two-game series, this one at the Rogers Centre with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees will send Hiroki Kuroda (3-4, 3.56 ERA) to the mound Wednesday night (7 p.m. ET/YES Network). Toronto will pitch Kyle Drabek (2-4, 3.66 ERA).

Kuroda will be seeking his first road victory of the season. He is 0-3, 4.32 away from Yankee Stadium so far this season.

The Yankees are dealing with a bullpen shorted by the season-ending injury to Mariano Rivera and the strained oblique that landed replacement closer David Robertson on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week.

In the second game of the series on Thursday night Phil Hughes (3-4, 5.50) will take the mound for New York for the first time since his best outing of the season, a 7.2-inning effort in a victory over the Seattle. Drew Hutchinson (2-1, 5.53) will pitch for Toronto.
