The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-2, on Sunday in the series finale at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Although the Mets lost the game, they won the series, 2-1.

The Mets got a good outing from Mike Pelfrey before the bullpen let things unravel late in the game. Pelfrey pitched six innings and allowed one run despite giving up eight hits. The run came in the first inning. New York led 2-1 after the first inning after a two-run shot by Ike Davis. The Mets wouldn't score again and had their remaining seven hits scattered by Phillies' pitchers. After Pelfrey exited the game, Ramon Martinez gave up two runs in the seventh inning which led him to be charged with a blown save and the loss in the game. Cole Hamels got the win for Philadelphia. He had 10 strikeouts, one walk and two earned runs in 7 innings.

Ty Wigginton only had one hit but had four RBI to lead the Phillies. While Ike Davis drove in both runs for the Mets, David Wright and Lucas Duda also went 2-4 in the game.

Mets outfielder Jason Bay was scratched before the game with a jammed right ring finger. X-rays taken on the finger were negative.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Jason Bay was scratched from the Mets lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Rubin went on to tweet that Bay's injury occured on his ring finger, rather than his index finger. He also tweeted that X-rays were negative.

The 33 year old outfielder is batting .185 on the season, with one home run and three runs batted in. Bay has been a massive disappointment in New York. He signed as a free agent in 2010 and in two years he's been limited by injuries and hit only 19 home runs in a Mets uni. He hit 185 home runs prior to joining the Mets.

The New York Mets will be going for a three-game sweep of the struggling Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. New York won the first game of the series, 5-2, behind a great pitching performance from knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey. Dickey went seven innings, allowed only one run and struck out seven Phils, out-dueling Cliff Lee. Game two was more of the same, as the Mets cruised to an easy 5-0 victory, behind a strong start from Jonathon Niese.

Cole Hamels and Mike Pelfrey are the probable starters for the third and final game. Hamels is 0-1 on the season with a 5.06 ERA. Pelfrey earned a no decision in his first start, where he allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. EST.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright suffered a broken pinkie during Tuesday's game and there was speculation that Wright would have to make a trip to the disabled list.

Four days later, Wright is in the Mets starting lineup and batting third against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a scorching start to the 2012 season. In 17 plate appearances Wright is batting .545, with one home run and four RBIs for the 5-2 Mets.

Wright is coming off the worst season of his career, in which he tied a career low in home runs with 14 and hit only .254. His low BABIP of .302 – 39 points below his career average – suggests Wright was the victim of bad luck in 2011.

The New York Mets aim to take the second leg of their series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon with Jonathon Niese on the hill.

Niese was stellar in his first start of the season, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Atlanta Braves before allowing four runs on two hits in that frame. Even with the poor seventh inning, Niese earned the win.

But he hasn't been good against the Phillies. The lefty is 0-3 with a 7.17 ERA during his last four starts against Philadelphia.

Vance Worley will start for the Phillies. The righty earned a no-decision in his first start after allowing just one run through six innings and leaving with a three-run cushion.

The New York Mets won the first game of a three-game road series in Philadelphia in Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies by a score of 5-2 on Friday evening. This was the team's first win since they defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday. The Mets' R.A. Dickey got the win, his second of the season. He went seven innings, allowing nine hits and only one earned run and struck out seven for an ERA of 2.08. The Phillies' Cliff Lee got the loss. He also went seven innings but allowed five hits and four earned runs, two of which were home runs, for a 3.46 ERA.

The Mets got off to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Daniel Murphy doubled to right field, scoring Ruben Tejada. Jason Bay then hit a home run over the wall in right center, which knocked in Tejada. The Phillies got on the board in the bottom of the third when Freddy Galvis hit a home run to bring the score to 3-1. The Mets extended their lead in the top of the fifth as Scott Hairston hit a homer over the left-field wall. Then in the top of the ninth, Lucas Duda hit a sacrifice fly, which was deep enough to score Justin Turner, to give the Mets their fifth and final run. The Phillies added the game's final run in the bottom of the ninth when Carlos Ruiz was able to cross home plate thanks to a fielding error by second baseman Murphy.

The New York Mets will try to bounce back from back-to-back losses Friday when they hit the road to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. The three-game series finds two teams meeting as they head in different directions.

New York opened the season with a surprising four-game winning streak before they lost 3B David Wright to a broken pinkie and then two straight to the Washington Nationals. Meanwhile, Philadelphia started off the 2012 season by dropping three of four, but then downed the Miami Marlins twice, outscoring the fish 10-3.

Though he so far has avoided a trip to the DL, Wright will be out of the lineup for the Mets as the series opens. In addition to wondering when he'll be able to get back on the field, the injuries to Wright have some within the organization wondering if he is worth a long-term commitment like the one handed out to LHP Jonathan Niese last week.

In order to try and shake some runs out of his offense, manager Terry Collins will open the series with a rather peculiar lineup:

1. Tejada

2. Murphy

3. Turner

4. Davis

5. Bay

6. Duda

7. Hairston

8. Thole

9. Dickey

The mighty trio of Turner-Davis-Bay has combined for a whopping six hits so far this season. Things aren't likely to get better for anyone in the Mets lineup with the Phillies handing the ball to Cliff Lee (0-0, 1.50 ERA). New York will counter with R.A. Dickey (1-0, 3.00).

You can watch the game locally on SNY or listen on WFAN 660.
