It's finally that time of year in the NHL. The 82-game regular season has come to a close and the Stanley Cup Playoffs are upon us after six months of jockeying for position.

The New York Rangers have put themselves at the top of the Eastern Conference, taking home ice advantage for the first time since 1996 in a series.

John Tortorella's group finished with 109 points and will now play the Ottawa Senators, a team the Rangers actually lost to three out of four times this year. New York should still be the heavy favorite, but don't discount the pesky Senators, who most expected to be among the conference's cellar-dwellers at the beginning of the campaign.

For a complete look at the Rangers first round schedule, click here.

The New Jersey Devils are a different story altogether.

Behind the dynamic duo of Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise, New Jersey accumulated 102 points which was only good enough for fourth place, in the Atlantic Division.

The sixth-seeded Devils will start the postseason against the Florida Panthers, who have been brutal down the stretch but hung on to the Southeast crown. Nobody is more favored going into their match-up than New Jersey.

The New Jersey Devils are right back where they belong.

After missing the playoffs last season for the first time in 14 years, the Devils find themselves once again playing for the Stanley Cup. After finishing the season with 48 wins, the third highest total in franchise history, the team clinched the sixth seed and will open against the Southeast champion Florida Panthers.

In some ways, that may the best draw of the opening round.

Florida enters the playoffs after a 12 year layoff, fresh off clinching their first ever division title. But they're also just 2-3-5 in their last ten games, and allowed a team like the Washington Capitals to have a chance at winning the division crown. They also have one of the league's worst offenses. They're 27th in both goals and points, and tied for 25th in assists. They've also allowed 209 goals, good for 16th in the league.

Those numbers, however, don't tell the whole story. Against the Devils, Florida went 2-2 this season, scoring 11 goals. The trio of Kris Versteeg, Tomas Fleischmann and Stephen Weiss accounted for seven of them, with Versteeg netting five goals. It's a line that the Devils know they have to shut down.

"Versteeg, I feel like he got two goals every game against us," Zach Parise told Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record. We'll have to pay attention. They have a good line and they throw (defenseman Brian) Campbell out there with them too, so they have that four-man attack. You have to make sure you're back pressuring hard."

Also, ex-Devil Scott Clemmensen may get the start despite being the number two goals. Clemmensen is 4-0-0 with a 2.05 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage in five starts against New Jersey.

The Devils enter the game with some pretty impressive streaks of its own. The team has won their last six games in a row, and set the post-expansion NHL record for penalty kill efficiency, with an 89.58 percent conversion rate. They also broke team records in both PK percentage and power-play goals against (27).

New Jersey also finished the season with 102 points, eclipsing the point total of the Panthers by eight points.

Devils coach Pete DeBoer, who will be facing his former team in the first round, said the timing for the playoffs couldn't be any better for the Devils.

"If you can write a script of how you want to enter the playoffs, obviously, you want to win six in a row," DeBoer told Gulitti. "We're playing some good hockey right now. Our confidence is high. We're scoring some goals. You feel good where you're at and the trick is that we make sure we carry that into the playoffs."

Behind a pair of goals from forward Ilya Kovalchuk, the New Jersey Devils doubled up the Ottawa Senators 4-2 on Saturday afternoon to finish the regular season with a victory.

Kovalchuk tied the game at one in the opening period with a power play tally, and then sealed the victory with another strike in the game's closing minute.

Goalie Martin Brodeur stopped 31 of 33 shots to earn the victory, his 31st of the season.

The win means New Jersey will enter the postseason as the sixth seed after finishing with 102 points. Fortunately for the Devils, it means a first round matchup with either Florida of Washington, each of whom has far fewer points this season (they will earn the third seed by virtue of their division championship).

New Jersey has won five straight and looks to finish the regular season with a six-game winning streak.
"We made a mistake there where one guy slips by us and it cost us the game," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "Aside from that one mistake I thought we played a good game."

New Jersey Devils center Jacob Josefson broke his wrist during Tuesday night's 3-1 win over the New York Islanders. The injury will put him on the bench for 4-to-6 weeks, meaning that, best-case scenario, he could return by the end of the second round of the 2012 NHL Playoffs provided New Jersey makes it that far.

It is difficult to tell exactly when Josefson hurt his wrist. He played six shifts in the first period and two in the second. He did not play in the third period, which is when the period was announced. Josefson has already missed 37 games this season after breaking his collarbone on Oct. 31.

Josefson played in 40 games during the regular season, scoring two goals and picking up nine assists with six penalty minutes. He averaged just over 12 minutes per game on the ice.

Matt Moulson scored the Islanders' only goal of the night just 2:39 after Patrik Elias put the Devils up 1-0 just over a minute into the game. Johan Hedberg was a bit better than Al Montoya in net, stopping 19 of 20 shots against.
