(Sports Network) As part of the Big East/SEC Challenge, first-time opponents Seton Hall and Auburn clash at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey tonight.

The Tigers are off to a perfect start with four wins in as many outings, but the opponents have been far from challenging to this point. Victories over programs such as McNeese State, Kennesaw State and Nicholls State were complemented with a 72-59 triumph over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night as Auburn ran it's record to 4-0 at home.

As for the Pirates, they too have gotten off to a strong start with five wins in six opportunities, but like the Tigers the team has triumphed over some weaker competition. Following an 80-73 loss against Northwestern on November 20 as part of the Charleston Classic, Seton Hall has rattled off a couple of victories against Yale (73-62) and Saint Peter's (63-54) last week.

Against the Golden Lions of Pine Bluff, Auburn knocked down 52.0 percent from the floor and an impressive 9-of-15 behind the three-point line in order to offset 16 turnovers earlier this week in Alabama. Chris Denson came off the bench to post a team-high 17 points for the hosts, followed by Kenny Gabriel and Frankie Sullivan with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Gabriel also added eight rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Tigers in those two categories. Auburn has had a different leading scorer in every game thus far, but overall the main contributor to the squad's success has been Sullivan with his 14.3 ppg, getting the job done with 41.4 percent shooting from three-point range which is exactly the average set by the team overall right now. Gabriel (11.5 ppg) is in for 7.5 rpg which has helped the program beat opponents on the glass by six rebounds per outing.

With four of five starters scoring in double figures, the Pirates really didn't need much support from their bench as they captured a nine-point win over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in non-conference play on Saturday night. Herb Pope was one of two to register a double-double as he posted 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Jordan Theodore made it happen with 13 points and 10 of the unit's 14 assists. Fuquan Edwin and Patrik Auba accounted for 14 and 12 points, respectively, as the team survived 42.1 percent shooting from the field. Pope is now averaging a double-double with 20.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, while Theodore checks in with 17.5 ppg and close to seven assists per game in order to keep the offense productive. Throw Edwin into the mix (14.8 ppg) and the trio takes care of a huge chunk of the team's 71.8 ppg so far this season.

The No. 3/4-ranked Syracuse Orange host No. 9/10 Florida Gators Friday night at the Carrier Dome (7 p.m. on ESPN). Here's the SB Nation New York preview.

The Syracuse University men's basketball program faces its most daunting challenge of its 2011-12 campaign Friday night, as the University of Florida travels to the Carrier Dome for a non-conference contest (7 p.m. ET on ESPN), which is a part of the Big East-SEC Challenge. The Orange (7-0), who are ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll and No. 3 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, will play its first-ranked opponent in the Florida Gators (5-1, ranked No. 10/9), who have rallied from a 81-74 loss to Ohio State University (No. 2/2), Nov. 15, with four straight victories.

Syracuse is coming off a dominating win over East Michigan University, 84-48, Tuesday night. Junior forward James Sutherland paced the Orange with 19 points, which tied a collegiate-best, while SU dissected the Eagles' 2-3 zone by knocking down a season-best 13 3-pointers.

Overall, junior forward Kris Joseph leads Syracuse in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while Southerland (11.9 ppg) and sophomore guard Dion Waiters (11.0 ppg) have each come off the bench to be second and third in scoring, respectively.

As for the Billy Donovan led Gators, who enter the contest as 5 1/2-point underdogs, they are so far living up to its preseason expectations, which had them finishing in third place in the Southeastern Conference. Florida's only hiccup came a few weeks ago against the Buckeyes, who forced16 turnovers out of the Gators.

Junior guard Kenny Boynton, who was named to the All-SEC Preseason Second Team and is the team's leading scorer with 18.5 ppg, netted just 15 points against Ohio State. Since then, Boynton (6-foot-2, 183-pounds) has compiled three 20-plus point performances.

Florida's solid starting backcourt is rounded out by freshman Bradley Beal (6-3, 207), who is slowly moving his way into Freshman Of The Year honors. So far this season, Beal is the Gators second-leading scorer (17.0 ppg) and has already posted two double-doubles -- 12 points and 10 rebounds against North Florida, Nov. 17, and 22-10 against Stetson.

Inside, sophomore forward Patric Young(6-9, 245) is the Gators leading rebounder (7.7 per game). Young is also netting 10.2 ppg.

Overall, the Gators can shoot the 3-ball (42.9-percent from behind the arc) pretty well and that will help them tremendously against Syracuse's 2-3 zone defense. Not surprisgly, Florida's 3-point attack is led by Boynton (22-of-45, 48.9-percent) and Beal (12-of-34, 50-percent).

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Terrence Jones finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, as No. 1 Kentucky cruised to an 81-59 victory over St. John's on Thursday.

Doron Lamb added 16 points and Anthony Davis had 15 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocks for the Wildcats (7-0) who have won 37 straight games in Rupp Arena.

They will host No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday.

"I have no idea how we are going to play them yet," Wildcats coach John Calipari said of the ensuing matchup with UNC. "I doubt if either one of us are going to try to hold the ball. I mean, it should be an up-and-down game. You let them get in too much of an up-and-down game, you'll get killed."

God'sgift Achiuwa paced St. John's (4-4) with 18 points, while Moe Harkless added 16. Both players grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Red Storm were without head coach Steve Lavin, who continues to recover from prostate cancer surgery.

Achiuwa put his team on top, 5-4, with a layup in the game's opening minutes. It would prove to be the Red Storm's last advantage.

The Wildcats reeled off a 12-0 run to grab a 16-5 lead on Lamb's trey midway through the first half.

They held a 31-20 advantage at the break, as Jones paced the team with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Davis added seven points, eight rebounds and five blocks in the dominant opening half.

For Kentucky, the game proved little more than a tune-up for Saturday's matchup with the Tar Heels, who were the preseason No. 1.

Jones knocked down a free throw with 11:43 remaining, as the lead ballooned to 20 at 54-34.

The Wildcats had a school-record 18 blocks in the game and finished strong, flirting with a 30-point lead down the stretch.

In all, the Red Storm hit just 2-of-13 three-pointers en route to their second straight loss.

"The problem was that when we got into the paint we couldn't finish or make that extra pass and that's something that we are going to have to learn," said St. John's coach Mike Dunlap.

Game Notes

Kentucky leads the all-time series with St. John's, 11-5.
