The New York Yankees will take what happened Monday night against the Minnesota Twins every time Ivan Nova pitches this season. Nova (1-0) pitched six innings, turned over a one-run lead to Joba Chamberlain, Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera and watched the Yankee bullpen shut down the Twins for a 4-3 victory Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada provided the Yankee offense, each with two-run home runs. A-Rod hit his in the first inning and Posada hit his third home run in two days in the second inning. The two home runs off Minnesota starter Scott Baker (0-1) gave the Yankees 11 home runs through four games this season.

The key moment for Nova came in the fifth inning with the lead sliced to one run and the tying run at second base. He induced Minnesota star Joe Mauer to ground out, however, maintaining the lead.

The series continues tonight at Yankees Stadium with CC Sabathia pitching for the Yankees and Brian Duensing for the Twins.

Coming into the 2011 season the biggest question mark about the New York Yankees revolved around their starting rotation. Specifically, their fourth and fifth starters. With Cliff Lee in Philadelphia and Andy Pettitte in retirement can the Yankees find guys who can competently handle the final two spots in that rotation? Tonight, the Yankees get their first glimpse of an answer when No. 4 starter Ivan Nova takes the mound against the Minnesota Twins (7:05 p.m., YES).

Nova, 24, earned this opportunity by impressing the Yankees during a late-season call-up in 2010. He went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 appearances, including seven starts. He followed that up by pitching to a 1.80 ERA over 20 innings during Spring Training, surrendering just 11 hits and four walks along the way.

The Yankees are 2-1 on the young season. The Twins are 1-2 after opening the season losing two of three to Toronto. Scott Baker pitches tonight for Minnesota.
