Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks put on a good show in Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game, scoring 29 points and hauling down six rebounds. Stoudemire’s East squad did not win, falling to the West, 148-143, but Stoudemire’s 29 points tied LeBron James for the East squad’s high-scoring honors.

Carmelo Anthony, who could soon by Stoudemire’s teammate with the Knicks, was impressed.

“He played great, man,” Anthony said after the West hung on for a 148-143 shootout win. “Amar’e played great. If the East had won, he would’ve had a chance to be the MVP.”

Stoudemire scored 14 of his points in the fourth quarter during a furious comeback by the East, which trailed by 17 points before slicing the deficit to two.

The Knicks return to regular-season action Wednesday when the host the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden. We know Stoudemire will be there. Question is, just exactly who else will be wearing a Knicks uniform?

The Slam Dunk Competition highlights the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities this evening (8 p.m., TNT). There is excitement because high-flying Los Angeles Clippers first-year player Blake Griffin will headline the event. Griffin gave a little taste of what you might see during the Rookie Challenge on Friday night.

The New York Knicks, of course, havequite the history with the Slam Dunk Competition. Nate Robinson, now with Boston and not competing this time around, is a three-time champion and won in both 2009 and 2010.

Here is Nate winning his first title in 2006:

Going way back to 1989 the first Knicks dunk champion was Kenny 'Sky' Walker.

No look at dunk competitions, and great dunkers, is complete without a look at Julius Erving. These are in-game dunks by Dr. J, and most when he was a Philadelphia 76er, but I couldn't resist including them. When it comes to dunks, there has still never been anyone quite like the Doctor.
