New York, NY (Sports Network) – Marian Gaborik came to life with a four-goal game as the New York Rangers crushed the Toronto Maple Leafs, 7-0, at Madison Square Garden.

Gaborik was mired in an eight-game goal drought and had just 11 goals in 33 games. However, he scored twice in the first and twice in the second to notch his third hat trick of the season and 13th of his career.

“It feels good, especially after you get the first one,” said Gaborik. “It was a big relief to get the monkey off my back and it kept rolling. We talked about getting off to a good start and we did.”

Artem Anisimov dished out four assists while Ruslan Fedotenko, Mats Zuccarello and Brian Boyle each had a goal for the Rangers, who had dropped three of four coming in. Sean Avery had three helpers in the win.

Henrik Lundqvist had to stop 22 shots for his seventh shutout of the season for New York, which came into the game having scored eight goals in its previous five contests.

“Once we scored our first two goals we took over the game completely,” said Lundqvist. “We did a good job. Our penalty kills were really good. It was a great win and a great way to bounce back from two tough losses.”

Jonas Gustavsson was charged with six goals on 25 shots for the Maple Leafs, who have dropped their past three after a four-game winning streak.

“Of course I wanted to have a good game and help the team win, not lose 7-0,” said Gustavsson.

Gaborik got the first goal at the 10:55 mark of the first. Avery sent a pass from the slot to the right side where Gaborik stickhandled to get Gustavsson out of position then tucked the puck behind the goaltender.

Less than two minutes later on the power play, Marc Staal fired a shot from the right point that Boyle redirected past Gustavsson.

Gaborik made it a 3-0 game 36 seconds later when Anisimov worked his way past two defenders behind the net and from the left corner threw a backhand pass out front where Gaborik tapped it into the net.

It was 4-0 two minutes after that as Fedotenko’s wrist shot from the slot hit off the leg of a Leaf and found its way past Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who briefly spelled Gustavsson in the first period and stopped just two of the three shots he faced.

“I thought we played good for the first 10 minutes or so,” said Toronto head coach Ron Wilson. “But after that first goal we just collapsed like a house of cards.”

Gaborik completed the hat trick at the 11:15 mark of the second when his shot from a sharp angle at the right side found its way into the net and he tallied his fourth goal of the game 3 1/2 minutes later as his snap shot from the slot hit the left corner.

Zuccarello scored on a wrister from the left circle less than a minute into the third period to account for the final score.

Gaborik’s career-high was a five-goal game scored against his current team on December 20, 2007 when he was a member of the Wild…Lundqvist, who is tied with Boston’s Tim Thomas for most shutouts in the NHL, has 31 shutouts in his career…The last time Toronto gave up seven goals in a game was December 5, 2009 against Boston…It was the second seven-goal game in less than a month for the Rangers as the team recorded a 7-2 win against the Islanders on December 27…The last Ranger to score four goals in a game was Radek Dvorak on March 29, 2001 against the Islanders.

In news that has totally come out of nowhere, the New York Rangers will be without their leading scorer and arguably their most valuable player up to this point, Brandon Dubinsky, for the next three-to-four weeks because of a stress fracture in his left leg.

John Tortorella spoke to reporters about Dubinsky's injury:

"No one specific thing (caused the injury). He's been complaining a little bit about soreness. We gave him a day off here and there. But there was no one specific thing. They looked at it yesterday and looked at it again today more closely, and it's a stress fracture. ... He's been struggling through it for the past couple of weeks here."

Dubinsky currently has 17 goals and 21 assists and has been the Rangers' most important player this year -- when you consider all the other injuries this team has faced -- playing in every facet of the game, leading a woeful faceoff team in faceoff percentage and leading all forwards in ice time. Though he had only scored once in the past nine games, rarely has Dubinsky's presence not been felt.

The Rangers are already without multiple members of their team: Vinny Prospal hasn't played a shift this season due to a knee injury, Alex Frolov tore his ACL (among other knee ailments), Erik Christensen suffered a sprained MCL and hasn't played since Dec. 29 and Ryan Callahan broke his hand back on Dec. 15. New York has also spent time with Marian Gaborik sidelined for a dozen games due to a separated shoulder. And its captain, Chris Drury, has only played 16 games this season because of a twice-broken finger.

To say this injury is devastating to the seventh-place Eastern Conference Rangers is an understatement. For a team that not only has struggled to score goals lately, plus a power play that has gone two for its last 32, this loss is huge.

The 24-year-old Dubinsky is a guy who has undoubtedly taken the next step this season, becoming a lead-by-example role model on a young Rangers squad and a gritty, hard-working and pretty skilled player on the ice, to, easily expected to surpass last season's career-high 44 points.

Sean Avery moves up to play with Artem Anisimov and Marian Gaborik, while Ruslan Fedotenko will again man the wing on the steady Brian Boyle-Brandon Prust line. The fourth line will consist of Chris Drury, Kris Newbury and Dale Weise, who was expected to be the healthy scratch tonight. For the time being, it looks like Weise is here to stay.

The Rangers have lost three of their last four games. Marian Gaborik can't buy a goal (or even a point at this stage) and the offense seems to only come from the Wojtek Wolski-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello line.

OK, so that last one isn't the worst thing in the world. But the rest of the team needs to start stepping up big time offensively.

Considering that Martin Biron started against the Flyers on Sunday expect Henrik Lundqvist to get the starting nod tonight. Sure, Biron didn't play bad against the Flyers, but the Rangers need a win, and Lundqvist is the man for the job.

There have been issues all over the ice for the Rangers in this three-game losing streak (omitting the Vancouver 1-0 victory), and some of it has been troubling. Hopefully the Rangers can bounce back against a lesser opponent and get themselves back on track.

The Rangers will be looking to get their record up to 27-18-3, and go from there. More after the game right here.
