The No. 5 Syracuse Orange just keep on rolling.

Behind Kris Joseph's game-best 18 points and 10 rebounds, Syracuse beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 70-58, Saturday at the Carrier Dome.

The victory should allow Syracuse to move up in the rankings because No. 4 Connecticut Huskies lost to No. 6 Pittsburgh Panthers, 78-63, on Monday.

The Orange (15-0), which led 34-33 at halftime, used a 16-5 run midway through the second half to secure its second Big East Conference win of the season.

For the third time in Jim Boeheim's coaching tenure, the Orange are 15-0 to start the season.

"We played much better offensively in the second half and we were much more patient with the ball," said Boeheim after the game. "We really played well today. Notre Dame is a difficult team to play. They were very good against our defense and they have good shooters. During this game we did very well on the offensive boards, probably the best we’ve done in a long time.”

Freshman forward James Sutherland scored 12 points off the bench, including five points during the critical run. Senior guard Scoop Jardine netted 15 points and dished out 10 assists.

Rick Jackson added 15 points and six blocks.

The Fighting Irish (12-2), who beat No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday, played good perimeter defense in the first half but couldn't sustain the intensity in the second.

(Sports Network) -- One of the nation's lone remaining undefeated teams will be in action on New Year's Day, as the fifth-ranked Syracuse Orange put their unblemished record on the line against the 15th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a Big East Conference affair.

The Irish are set to play their first true road game of the campaign, and they carry a 12-1 overall record into this contest. They opened Big East play against a ranked Georgetown team on Wednesday and posted an impressive 69-55 victory. Notre Dame has now won its last four games since suffering its lone loss in a 14-point decision to Kentucky. Syracuse has yet to play a true road game despite the fact that it has already taken the floor 14 times, and there is no doubt that the home-friendly schedule has played a major role in the stellar start.

The Orange moved to 14-0 on Tuesday with an 81-74 decision over Providence in the Big East opener. Jim Boeheim may not have his most talented team this year, but the legendary coach certainly knows how to get the most from his players.

The Orange hold a 23-18 series edge over the Fighting Irish, which includes victories in each of the last two meetings.
