The guy's physical skills are enticing. There's a reason he is available, though. I'm usually for rolling the dice on big talent when all it would cost is a mid to late round Draft pick. This is a definite exception, though. Perhaps he would embrace playing for Rex Ryan like so many do. Perhaps he would be fine playing in a 3-4 here. The problem is the Jets would depend on this guy if they got him. This is very tempermental guy who has frankly acted like a selfish baby the past few months. What would happen if he decided he didn't like the system or wasn't getting enough playing time or thought it was too cloudy overhead for him to play hard? It's worth nothing that those two All Pro seasons happened to come when he was without a contract for the next year. He may have Jenkins' ability but none of his commitment to team or work ethic.

Well, speculation about this should be no surprise.

With All-Pro nose tackle Kris Jenkins shelved for the year with a knee injury, speculation quickly turned to whether the Jets would pursue a trade with the Washington Redskins for talented but troubled Pro Bowl tackle Albert Haynesworth.

NFL Network inside Jason La Canfora checked in on the subject on Tuesday, calling it doubtful. Actually, La Canfora said he’d be both “surprised” and “shocked.” So that’s comfortably being categorized as doubtful, for now.

Looking at compensation, it’s widely believed the Redskins have been seeking a second-round pick in return for Haynesworth. La Canfora believes the Redskins won’t get more than a fourth- or fifth-round pick for the two-time first-team All Pro.

Given Haynesworth’s reluctance to play in the Redskins’ 3-4 defense, there’s little reason to believe there’s a fit with the Jets, who run a base 3-4 but often use different packages. Beyond the reported $16 million due over the final three seasons of Haynesworth’s current contract, a prospective team must consider adding his personality to its locker room.

So, it does not look likely. It is, however, a question that had to be asked.

The New York Jets have signed wide receiver David Clowney and have waived running back Danny Woodhead. The announcements were made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Clowney rejoins the Jets after being waived on Sept. 5, 2010. In his two seasons with the Jets, Clowney has played 15 games and caught 15 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown. He established career-highs last season with 14 catches for 191 yards in 13 games. Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, he was signed off the Green Bay practice squad by the Jets on October 3, 2007.

Woodhead was signed to the active roster on Oct. 17, 2009, and appeared in 10 of the final 11 games of the 2009 regular season. He recorded eight receptions for 87 yards and rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries. Woodhead was previously signed to the practice squad on Sept. 8, 2009, after being waived Sept. 6. He originally signed with the Jets on May 2, 2008, as an undrafted free agent and spent the 2008 season on injured reserve.

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan said Monday night he has “no idea” at this point how severe the knee injury suffered Sunday by nose tackle Kris Jenkins is.

“Obviously, it’s a huge loss. There are very few Kris Jenkins out there,” Ryan siad. “That’s a huge loss. I have no idea what the extent of the injury is, so I’m hopeful that it’s not serious, but clearly it was enough for him not to return to the game. We’re definitely hoping that he’ll be OK.”

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) – Joe Flacco led an adequate pass attack with 248 yards, and the Baltimore Ravens won a defensive battle with the New York Jets, 10-9, to open up the 2010 schedule for both clubs at New Meadowlands Stadium.

Flacco completed 20-of-38 passes and threw an interception for the Ravens (1-0), who have high expectations this season after a loss to the Colts in the divisional playoffs a year ago. New acquisition Anquan Boldin hauled in seven passes for 110 yards, while Todd Heap added six catches for 72 yards.

Willis McGahee scored the game’s lone touchdown, while Ray Rice added 43 yards on the ground.

The story of the game was the Ravens’ defense, which wasn’t nearly as hyped as their top-ranked counterparts in New York. Baltimore held an anemic Jets offense to just 176 yards, including only 60 through the air.

Mark Sanchez was highly ineffective when given the opportunity for the Jets (0-1), throwing for 74 yards on 10-of-21 passing. New York, which went through the “Hard Knocks” series on HBO earlier this summer, was billed by many to be a Super Bowl contender after a surprise run to the AFC Championship Game in 2009.

LaDainian Tomlinson, in his first game with the Jets after leaving the Chargers via free agency, ran 11 times for 62 yards, but penalties plagued New York throughout the game. The hosts committed 14 infractions for a total of 125 yards, their highest total since 1988.

Rex Ryan, a former assistant with Baltimore for 10 seasons prior to his hiring in New York, was unable to top his old club in the first matchup against them.
