Ryan McDonagh has made his decision final, he is going pro. Although there was some speculation that he wanted to remain at Wisconsin, he has official signed a deal with the New York Rangers.

From Blueshirt Banter:

The Rangers have officially signed touted prospect Ryan McDonagh out of the University of Wisconsin. McDonagh, a physical defensive defenseman, was acquired as a part of the Scott Gomez trade in June, 2009. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but expect something along the lines of the Derek Stepan deal.

In my opinion, this is the final straw when it comes to Wade Redden remaining a New York Ranger. Expect McDonagh to make a serious run at the team in camp, because the coaching staff has speculated that the defensive spot on the team was “his to lose.”

Onde re of the biggest questions this year for the New York Rangers was weather or not Ryan McDonagh was going to go pro, or go back for his senior year at Wisconsin. Well that decision has apparently been made.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, McDonagh is in negotiations with the New York Rangers to work out an entry level contract. If this is true then John Tortorella--who has made it known that he expects McDonagh tomake the team out of training camp--would have a problem on his hand. A good problem: too many defenseman.

Tortorella would also have an easy solution. Incidentally McDonagh coming to the Rangers answers another huge question: what will the Rangers do with Wade Redden.

If McDonagh does in fact make the team out of camp then Redden would certainlybe dropped to the AHL. The Rangers would gain about 5.8 million dollars in cap space, and the Rangers would no longer be burdened by Redden's awful play.
