With the Devils third selection (114th overall) they selected their second defenseman of the draft, taking Bloomington (HS-Minnesota) prospect Joe Foust, a d-man who registered 40 points in each of the last two season in high school. More to come.

Well, we have a goalie. I spoke to Devils play-by-play man Matt Loughlin at the Devils equipment sale today and he didn't think New Jersey would pick a goalie, but the Devils have selected their first since Jeff Frazee (who probably is in his last chance to really be considered goalie of the future this fall) in 2005 with Scott Wedgewood, who plays with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. He played in only 18 games last year, his 2nd season with the team, and registered a 3.26 GAA and .909 save percentage. More to come.

The New Jersey Devils waited until Day 2 of the NHL Draft, but when they made their selection at No. 38 overall (a pick acquired with Ilya Kovalchuk from the Thrashers) they went with defense, selecting Oklahoma-born, Michigan-raised blueliner Jonathan Merrill with their second-round pick.

Here's NHL.com's Scouting Report:

NHL Central Scouting's Jack Barzee
"He plays the game a lot like Jordan Leopold. He plays weaving and diving, sneaking and thinking, gaining the zone and moving the puck ahead right on the tape to a guy. He's skilled and he's really come a long way in his development."

U.S. Under-18 head coach Kurt Kleinendorst
"He's very intelligent on both sides of the puck, makes good decisions, and defensively is good about keeping himself in good position. There are a lot of things to appreciate about his game, including his size and his dedication in the weight room."
